Hi! I'm Rae, I'm a coach here at Mountain High Fitness and JW Fitness. My specialist interests for personal training are creating supportive spaces for LGBTQIA+ people, managing long term health conditions and fitness for healthy aging. I'm a health at every size advocate, which means that training with me is not about exercise to get a smaller body, but how exercise can be an enjoyable and regular part of your routine for life.

As a coach with 9 years experience as well as NHS physiotherapy experience, there's plenty of ways to find movement that fits your needs and preferences.  Ultimately, my goal with my clients is to help them to be healthy throughout their lifespan, whether that's by doing functional exercises to help support day to day activities, or by helping someone start their journey lifting heavy weights to get strong.

Being ex-healthcare I like to keep my skills fairly sharp, so I have my own coach. It's actually quite difficult to find every day professional development stuff that's not emailing on a course, so I've decided to try all the different coaches I work alongside to experience their practice 😁

Today coached me doing a muscle build leg day - it certainly wasn't how I'd coach myself, so it was really good. It was hard and high volume. I definitely didn't cry.

I'm not a fan of new year new me, but I've found setting goals or intentions for the year to come really useful. This is my 3rd year doing it, so here is 2025's mission statement!

1) read 10+ books. Making teaching a challenge has been a great way of exploring things I wouldn't normally read. Lovely clients help me out on this one too.

2) 30+ minutes of cardio weekly (as well as walking). As a powerlifting cardio is not my favourite thing to do, but I do want to be more healthy and well rounded in my fitness experiences.

3) see long distance friends. I am grateful to have so many friends and 2024 being such a wild ride meant I didn't have much capacity to see friends that weren't local, so I want to change that this year.

4) get back to competition. It's not for everyone but it's important to me :)

5) more walks with more moss! 2024 was very much survival mode so I'd like to get out more in nature and just enjoy different environments.

Thank you all so much for an incredible 2024 (workwise anyway, the less said about the personal side 👀). It's amazing to have grown the community so much with so many wonderful people.

It's that time of year for the new year new me posts... But how about we reframe that to new year, new habits?

Maybe you're brand new in your movement venture, or maybe you're more experienced and want to change something about how you exercise. Small changes really can add up to big things.

Want to walk more? Rather than 10k steps or nothing, try walking an extra 500 or 1000 steps.
Want to try a structured exercise routine? Pick 3 exercises you know and enjoy and try them once a week.

Maybe have a think about what's important to you. Enjoy working in groups? Maybe try a class with a friend.

Are you early in your weight lifting journey, or perhaps have been lifting a little while and want to up your lifting your game? Come along to my barbell workshop and learn the basics of squat, bench and deadlifts in a small group setting at . Looking at technique, different styles and how to bail safely.

Ultimately, my goal with my clients is to help them to be healthy throughout their lifespan, whether that's by doing functional exercises to help support day to day activities, or by helping someone start their journey lifting heavy weights to get strong.

Outside of work times you're likely to see me in the gym doing my own training for my favourite sport, powerlifting.
