Men and women may speak a different language when it comes to sharing experiences, and the implications for men’s mental health are profound. When managing our mental health, and both our platonic and romantic relationships, understanding how men and women navigate the disclosure of positive and negative information is crucial.

A recent study published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, titled “He said, she said: Gender differences in the disclosure of positive and negative information“, sheds light on intriguing patterns that may influence the mental well-being of the men in your life.

How Can I Sleep When My Mind Is Racing?

Our minds can be overstimulated when we want to rest. It can be hard to calm ourselves down.

You can slow everything down just by remembering three numbers:
4. 7. And 8.

First, push the tip of your tongue against the roof of your mouth, just behind your front teeth, and keep it there.
(Trust me, it won’t be as weird as it sounds.)

Breathe in through your nose as you count to 4.
Hold that breath as you count to 7.
Breathe out through your mouth as you count to 8.

Try and repeat this 4 times. You’ll feel calmer and more ready to sleep.

How can I get rid of negative thoughts?

We all have negative thoughts, it’s a natural part of how we process emotions.

Don’t try to stop them. Instead, take a moment to realize it isn’t your only thought.

When you notice a negative thought, imagine freezing it.
Do you shoot ice from your fingertips? Or have freeze breath? Do you make icicles rain down on it?

Once the negative thought is trapped in ice, you can leave it there and get on with your day. Or shatter it into a thousand shards.

Or watch it melt into a little puddle, then step over it 💧
