Descendants of Walenty Lis of Błędowa Zgłobieńska, Rzeszów, Poland In the mid 1800s,Walenty Lis married Jadwiga Jerz. Many descendants left Błędowa Zgłobieńska and emigrated to the United States and Canada.

Michał Lis (1883-1923) emigrated to the U.S. in 1902 and married Apolonia Micał in 1909. Apolonia (Pauline Liss), together with her daughters Bernice Fary and Stephenie Liss, exchanged and saved many letters and photos with their Polish relatives. In 1985, Bernice took her dream trip to visit her Micał and Lis relatives with her son Father Francis Fary, who took many slides. Bernice' daughter-in-law, Jane Fary, loves genealogy and history. She has used the notes, documents, letters, and photos to research these families and compile a Lis Family History which contains information on over 125 descendants of Walenty Lis and Jadwiga Jerz. Many branches of the family have contributed additional information for this project, and it will soon be available to share with interested descendants.

Welcome to Betty Nazaruk of Edinburgh, Scotland, who is a descendant of Walenty and Jadwiga Lis' son Jakub and his wife Agnieszka Rogala. Through an Ancestry DNA match, we discovered that she is Dan Fary's 3rd cousin, twice removed.

Here is updated information:
Walenty Lis was born about 1805. He married Jadwiga Jez, probably before 1830. They lived in house number 188 in Bratkowice, about 6 miles north of Błędowa Zgłobieńska near Rzeszów. Their family included daughters Agnieszka and Marianna, sons Jakub and Stanisław (listed as the father of Michał Lis on his baptismal record), and probably other children who died young. Walenty Lis died at age 60 from an asthma attack on 4 April 1865 at house 188. At the time of his death, his son Jakub and his family were also living in house number 188.
Jadwiga Jez, daughter of Wojciech Jez, was born about 1803 and died at age 73 on September 1876 at house number 188. The surname Jez means “hedgehog.”

Known children of Walenty Lis and Jadwiga Jez were:
1. Agnieszka Lis, born about 1830 at Bratkowice, Poland; married Stanisław Lis
2. Marianna Lis, born about 1835 at Bratkowice, Poland; married Tomasz Szalony
3. Jakub Lis, born about 1840 at Bratkowice, Poland; married Agnieszka Rogala
4. Stanisław Lis, born about 1843 at Bratkowice, Poland; married Marya Gubernat
