Equinoxes occur when the sun crosses the celestial equator in its seasonal migration. This occurs twice a year. The Vernal equinox is in late March and the Autumnal one is in late September. This essence has been made from waters of both equinoxes. A balance of dark and light. This essence is deeply linked to the Dobharchu story and the darkness we can feel around death and depression. Water as mediators between Earth and Cosmos. On the morning of March 20, 2015, a near-total solar eclipse was visible from Ireland. Over 90% of the Sun was be obscured as the Moon passes between it and the Earth. Waters were collected from Glenade Lough through the reflection of the eclipse. This essence helps one to become more aware of their spiritual path. It helps to release pain that we are holding; there can be a fear in releasing known pain and a fear of the lightness of our being. Eclipses can give us the benefits a reevaluation of our life and awareness to see what we might need to let go. We may experience fear, worry, tendency to complain and whine, sensitivity and hyper reaction to “injustice”. We should be aware of our own emotions and those of the others and realize that the behaviour of others might not be what they really mean. The situations we encounter around the eclipse time tempt us to react negatively, create a conflict, or argue. The best position is to be a witness. An eclipse can be considered to be a door that breaks our bond with the past. We currently use our senses to interpret nature, and not in the way I feel nature had first evolved: to act as receivers, permitting us to stand back within the presence, the potentiality for the vibrational expression of matter and to feel and receive and relish the sounds, smells, sights, tastes and touch of all that is. Anticipating the presence of an observer to engage in a co-creative dance within a transitional sea of potentiality, a potentiality that forms the core of the Earth. Although we are tiny, we feel the Universe.

wearable waters for the spiritual being - Arctic waters

This work originates from an art and science residency I undertook in 2012, during which I spent several weeks aboard a tall ship navigating the Arctic waters of Svalbard. My research focused on exploring and experimenting with the micro and macro forces of ice in the retreating ice flows.
My practice involves deeply engaging with the landscape, revealing the invisible by creating tangible responses to forces that aren't immediately apparent. I draw on homeopathic methodologies to uncover shared experiences through water. My process involves serial dilutions, where each iceberg sample is carefully examined to reveal what lies within. When substances are submerged or diluted in water, they leave behind traces or impressions. These varied resonances, locked inside the icebergs for so long, are now being released as the ice melts. The remedies, inspired by homeopathic serial dilution techniques, act as tiny poetic time capsules. Each ice sample is explored to uncover the secrets it holds.
This work reflects on the ephemeral and delicate sense of loss, inviting contemplation of the contemporary environment we inhabit. We live in a world where we only see the tip of the iceberg—vast energy contained in small spaces. There’s a vivid burst of brilliance, like fireworks, a healing light in a hazy apparition.
Additionally, I collaborated with Masaru Emoto, known for his hypothesis that human consciousness affects the molecular structure of water. Over years of research with frozen water crystals, Emoto has proposed that water absorbs the energy directed at it and that polluted water can be purified through prayer and positive visualization. He demonstrates this by showing how crystals change when exposed to different words and sounds. Emoto grew a crystal for me from the meltwaters of the Magdalena iceberg, further contributing to this exploration.

I make essences from water. I have seen icebergs in the Arctic from a tall ship, wandered the desert of New Mexico and stood on the tip of the Cape of Good Hope. In these places and where ever I am, my intention is always to try to communicate with the water that is there, this most beautiful life-giving force of nature. Each body of water is totally unique. It has it's own physical and spiritual history, it's own animal and mineral content, and it's own unique energy that it imparts on living beings that it encounters. If you've ever had a drink from a crystal clear mountain stream, and one from an ancient well or a swim in the sea, you will know that all water is not the same.
I am an artist and a healer and my life's work is to understand and communicate with water. I love it in all its layers, the tiny micro-organisms that live in one drop, the huge oceans and ocean creatures, lakes. rivers, clouds, mist, rain, sleet, hale, icebergs and glaciers. I live on the North West coast of Ireland and it rains here a lot, mostly pure north Atlantic water, swept up in the storms above Greenland and Iceland.
In my studio I study the water samples that I've collected on my travels. And slowly, the essence of the water is unravelled. Then I take a small amount of the water, which holds all of it's history and potential, and make an essence.
Then my partner, glassblower Graham Reid blows a glass vessel to hold the water essence which is sealed inside the glass, so they can be worn as wearable waters.

Graham Reid grew up in South Africa. He studied architecture at Massachusetts College of Art, he took glassblowing as an elective and subsequently switched to sculptural glass. After returning to his ancestral roots in Ireland, he designed and built Knockbeg Glass Studios where he taught and blew glass under the name Glóine Eíreann. He has a flameworking and metal studio at home in Sligo. His sculptural work is primarily concerned with expressing and manifesting the universal forces that surround us but are often invisible.
