BOOK #7 of 2023
What I Know For Sure, is that I have ALWAYS admired Oprah. Due to her rich and complex history growing up in the South, traumatizing events she endured as a a child, in an era at the peak of the civil rights movement, Oprah was and has been RELENTLESS at the pursuit to better her life through education and her career.
I have fond memories as a child, watching her come of age and come into herself as a beautiful and proud black woman. My mother and my aunt delighted in her transparency and vulnerability and as I grew older, I have grown to as well.
What I have come to learn is her continued drive for excellence and education, her passion for reading, and understanding the walk from someone else’s shoes as a reporter has led her to embody a quest for loving kindness and compassion for all human beings. A constant pursuit for equality in all walks of lives. Oprah embodies this message and lives it out fully.
I often wondered if she can even be relatable anymore due to her fame, power, and money. But I think she is deeply compassionate and uses her resources wisely to better our world.
The book was light and funny at times as I enjoy her humor, a fabulous audio “read” because she has a fantastic voice and is incredibly expressive. I did find a copy at the used book store that I happily added to my collection. But her writing here is also poignant, having me even take notes many times along the way. An excellent reflection. So god I spent an evening with this book. You will fly through it. A collection of essays organized by theme: joy, resilience, connection, gratitude, possibility, awe, clarity, and power. I’m inspired and curious to make note of what I personally know for sure.
