Octaband LLC

Octaband LLC Octaband is a colorful, fun interactive tool which promotes physicality, individual self-expression and community-building.

The Octaband® provides a visual representation of each person as an individual and an integral member of a group. I was motivated to create the Octaband® to address the needs of a specific group of older adults with dementia whose cognitive, physical and social challenges kept them isolated. The sensory features of the Octaband® stimulated and inspired them to engage, move together and look at one another across the circle. It is the uniqueness of each one of us and our connection to a larger whole that is manifested in the image of the Octaband® - a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts, a whole that bubbles up with synergy. This wholeness represents the inherent potential of health and well-being of each of the participants.

Let's celebrate Science Friday's annual Cephalopod Week.

We love because the Octaband® was named for the octopus, which extends its arms into the environment to bring food back into the center. Similarly, the Octaband reaches its arms into the group environment, bringing a little of the resources of each person into the center to feed the group synergy.
