If, like me, you are a carer for a family member, you will know all too well how difficult it is to take time out for yourself and to refill your cup.

Not looking after ourselves is something everyone can be guilty of at times. When you’re a parent, having others to look after can make finding the right balance a real challenge.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And when you’re the parent of children with additional needs, doing all that we can to meet those needs can mean that looking after ourselves comes way down the list of priorities. ⁣⁣
There’s the high levels of care we have to give on a daily basis, the battles we have trying to access the support our children need, and the worries about what the future holds. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Then there’s the lack of sleep, the meltdowns, the isolation, and lack of respite. That’s without even taking into account work or any other relationships or interests we might have. It’s no wonder that our own needs begin to no longer seem important in our minds.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If we do manage to find some time we’re often too physically and mentally drained to make the most of it. Unsure of what to do, we can feel guilty about taking a break and even trying to switch off. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Which is not a good place to be in. Carer burn out is all too common, and simply not a state we can allow ourselves to get into. After all, there’s other people who massively depend on us being physically and mentally well. ⁣⁣

This last year, and all of the challenges it has brought to our lives has massively impacted the mental health of many of us. It’s been so tough for us and for our kids. The lack of school routine, activities we can access, and support has pushed us to our limits. With life hopefully approaching a period of stability now, it’s time for us to think about ourselves and our own lives too.⁣
⁣⁣
With our caring responsibilities it will never be about putting ‘me’ first, but we do need to find a way to make it ‘me’ too ❤️

The kids are back at school after 9 weeks of home schooling.

What ever you are feeling, make sure you take some time out for yourself today.

You could do this by joining me on the Refilling Your Cup page on Facebook at 11am today, for about 20 minutes of reflection and meditation.

My children are in bed early tonight and their uniform is all ready and laid out, ready for the return to school tomorrow, after weeks of home schooling due to Lockdown.

How are you feeling about the return to school?

Excited?
Relieved?
Sad?
Guilty?
Anxious?

Whatever you are feeling, come and join me here on Monday morning at 11am. Take some time to "be" and sit with your thoughts and emotions. Just take some time to relax, and listen to the short meditation to help you to refill your cup after these last few trying weeks.

It's World Book Day today!

While my two children have gone into school dressed up, I am hoping to settle down with a cuppa and my Kindle to continue reading 'Warrior Goddess Training'.

What are you reading at present?
And if you're not, find a few minutes today to pick up a book or magazine and just get lost in the words.

As we're coming in to the home straight of home schooling during this Lockdown, keep your chin up and your mind positive.

Keep looking out for the positives and enjoy the last few days of this unique time with your children.

Anyone else feeling bogged down, heavy, lethargic, hopeless?

With all that's being bandied around on TV, newspapers, social media...
All the potential negative implications of getting "back to normal"...
All the conflicting opinions...
All the fear-mongering...

As empaths, people-pleasers and over-givers, we take on all that negative energy as our own.

So, how can we restore our energy levels and lighten our mood? By unplugging from the source of the negative energy.

Unplug from screens.
Even if it's just for a few hours. I've taken the massive step of removing the Facebook app from my phone, so now I have to be intentional with my Facebook scrolling as I can only view it on my laptop.

Instead, plug into nature.
Get outside.
Feel the breeze on your face and blowing through your hair.
Feel the texture of the ground under your feet.
Hear the sound of the birds and smell the grass and flowers that are coming back to life.

Let's make this Hump Day positive, energising and enjoyable :-)

In light of the Prime Minister's announcement of the Roadmap to Freedom last night, we all need to maintain a positive mindset and attitude.

Yes, there is hope but we also need to acknowledge the conditions that have been laid down before each stage of the restrictions are lifted.

But we should focus on the positives and look for the best in everything, everyday.

Signs of Spring are appearing in my garden.

It always warms my heart when I see daffodils, snowdrops and magnolia blooming.

It's a sign that better weather is to come.

As people-pleasers and over-givers, we need to give ourselves some care and attention, especially over the this cold, dark season.

And keep a look out for the little signs that better things are to come.

Today is the first day of Lent.

Traditionally, people give something up for the 40 days leading up to Easter. But some people prefer to take up a worthwhile activity.

So, I'm inviting you to take up loving yourself through Lent. You might like to use some or all of these ideas for inspiration. ❤️

About Refilling Your Cup

• Life not living up to your expectations? • Fed up of people expecting too much of you? • Struggling to find time for yourself? • Got to the point that you don't know who you are anymore?

I’m Amy and I’m a Mindset & Self-Care Coach. I’m a hyper-empath and selflessly give of my time and energy to anyone and everyone around me. This, of course, in exhausting and unsustainable, so I have had to change my mindset and learn how to take a step back and look after myself first and foremost, before I can give to other people.

I have set up my coaching practise, on the principle:

“It is not selfish to refill your own cup, so that you can pour into others. It is not a luxury. It is essential.”
