A little late to the Fire Cyder game, but here’s this year’s iteration: onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric, horse radish, jalapeño, Hawaiian chili peppers, thyme, and Cuban oregano. Cheers to immune support this fall/winter!
Do you make Fire Cyder? What’s your favorite ingredient? Also, if you’re on O’ahu, do you know where I can find fresh horse radish or wasabi??

Yesterday I had a massage client who is recovering from injuries by working with a physical therapist, and she said, “basically, I’m a wreck!” I told her I don’t believe in using that kind of language for our bodies. Our bodies are beautiful, amazing, and resilient. Our physical and emotional bodies go through so many different states, and they’re always working toward homeostasis (aka balance). Sometimes we need to change our behaviors to balance our emotions and seek professional help from massage therapists and physical therapists to recover from injuries (but YOU are the one really doing the work!).
I’m about 18 months postpartum now, and damn, what a journey pregnancy and motherhood has been. I feel like this is as big of a milestone for me as it is for my daughter. I’m not the same woman I was 2 years ago. I’m in a different body now. And my brain has changed. My heart has grown. My drive to shape my daughter’s future for the better is so incredibly strong.
I took this picture on my longer run this morning, and I feel like the beauty of Kailua beach from the vantage point of the crumbling sidewalk really fits how I feel. We are beautiful works in progress. Give yourself some credit 💚

New logo! The flower is that of culinary ginger, which is one of my top favorite herbs topically and internally. Mellifera apis is the species name for honey bee; an insect that means a lot to me. I have always seen myself as a little “worker” bee because I find enjoyment and meaning through my work in service to others. Now that my identity has shifted into becoming a mother, I see more value in my work as a massage therapist than I did before. Mothering is also a form of working in service too, of course (just with very different forms of communication 😅).
Whatever your form of work may be, I do hope you find enjoyment in it. 💚

Shoulder and neck tension? Let’s get that massaged out! I love integrating Big Island style Lomi Lomi with my background in Swedish and Deep Tissue. Joint mobilization and stretching are crucial for working out muscle tension. No painful massages here - I work with you to make sure we maintain a therapeutic level of pressure.
Come see me at Nori Kohana in Kailua on Monday and Saturday afternoons. I’m also happy to come to you for mobile massage in your own home (a real treat!). DM for booking info.

Where bodywork meets tea.
When I first started working as a massage therapist, I felt a longing to add something else to my practice. I had a background in environmental education and missed being outside in the school garden. Luckily, I discovered an herb a school outside of San Francisco where I spent 2 years learning about plant medicine. Finally, I could connect massage with the plant world! I loved learning about formulation and consults because it was so similar to my practice as a body worker.
I’m happy to announce that at 7 months postpartum, I’m really getting back into the swing of things and it feels so exciting to finally have an LLC! My bipolar episodes have stabilized and I’m in a great place mentally and physically to return to work (albeit very part time).
Please reach out if you’re curious about how herbs and bodywork can help you. My herbal consults take an in depth look at your health status and I recommend the appropriate herbal formulation based on your needs. And I can do this remotely! Bodywork, of course, is a great way to reset by receiving specialized care for aches and pains.
Wherever this post may find you, I hope that you find peace and can find ways to live in love, especially now during these tumultuous times. Remember, “peace begins with me.”

We do not become healers.
We came as healers. We are.

Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not become storytellers.
We came as carriers of the stories we and our ancestors actually lived. We are.

Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not become artists. We came as artists. We are.

Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not become writers.. dancers.. musicians.. helpers.. peacemakers. We came as such. We are.

Some of us are still catching up to what we are.

We do not learn to love in this sense.
We came as Love. We are Love.
Some of us are still catching up to who we truly are.

The wildfires on Maui are the most devastating thing to have happened to our homeland in generations. Please donate directly to families. I’ve put the google doc of families who are victims of this tragedy as a link in my bio. Please share this far and wide. Mahalo nui loa for your kōkua. 🌺🌈🌺

I love choosing a daily angel card. Today I asked, “who will be my angel?” as I stirred the rest of the cards with closed eyes and look at what I grabbed! The angel of Resilience. Resilience is a learned skill, and a very important one. Especially during tumultuous times like the ones we are living in today. Yesterday, my father’s alma mater high school was victim to yet another mass shooting. He and my aunties and uncle are so saddened by the current state of affairs. We need gun reform. Guns are the number one killer of children, can you believe it? We have done so well caring for our children in cars, that it’s actually guns that kill children now. Guns. Our second amendment. It’s time to fix that, for the constitution was written too long ago. Gun reform is health care, and health care is a fundamental human right. Our children and educators should not have to fear going to school, or shopping in a mall.

Aloha from the Kingdom oh Hawai’i!
I took a very long pause from this account, and have returned with a new name: Mellifera Wellness. I’m also now a mother! It’s been the most transformative experience of my life. Pregnancy rocked my boat way more than I anticipated. And I’m really grateful I have endurance training because my low intervention birth was 33 hours long (including about 3 hours of pushing).
This Kalo (Taro) was gifted to me from a neighbor who is a farmer. It’s been fun settling into life as a resident of Hawai’i again. I miss my community of friends in California, but once a keiki o ka ‘āina, always a child of the land. I’m happy to be home and blessed to have brought another keiki o ka ‘āina here too.
Happy Spring, wherever you may 🐝And if you’re in California, go see that super bloom for me 🌻🌻🌻
