Want your practice to be the top-listed Clinic?
The Passion That Drives My Business
Ever since I began post-grad training as a Dramatherapist in 2001, I have been completely enthralled by the power of guided creativity and play to help clients explore and make sense of who they are.
The ‘drama’ in dramatherapy is not about expecting clients to do ‘dramatic’ enactments; rather, it is about using art materials, small world objects, images, sensory materials and aspects of story to help a client to access and externalise their inner world in a safe and supported environment. Sometimes the client will work with ‘real’ lived experiences; where the experiences are too painful to address directly or have been so deeply concealed within the unconscious, we work through the creative arts to allow the feelings and senses to be worked with and processed without overwhelming the client. Achieving freedom in this way from the straitjacket of their past, the client is then able to make their own choices about how they lead their life.
My experience of bringing up an adopted son, alongside my birth son, has given me great insight, knowledge and skills in working with developmental trauma, or in other words, the emotional blocks laid down early in our lives which stop us from experiencing our fullest and most fulfilled selves.
I love helping clients to free themselves of the thoughts and feelings which are holding them back from living a spontaneous and joyful life; (animals are much better at it than humans are - see the happy chappy above!). And I also love running workshops for women which boost their awareness of who they are and how they relate to the world.
