Florence Geneva McSparrin, 91, of Raymond, MS passed away on August 6, 2025 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Geneva was born on November 17, 1933 in Purvis, MS to James Acey Cagle and Lillie Elizabeth (Whiddon) Cagle. She worked for the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) in Jackson for 30 years. Upon retiring from MEPS, she worked part-time at Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS, for 13 years. She was a longtime member of Faithview Baptist Church, where she loved her church family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Eugene McSparrin, her daughter, Patsy Janell McSparrin, her parents, four brothers and three sisters. Geneva is survived by her daughter Katherine Anne Adams (Mark Adams) of Jackson, her son Michael E. McSparrin (T.J. McSparrin) of Clinton, and her daughter Karen Elizabeth Cessna (Joe Cessna) of Richland. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Her family was incredibly precious to her and she loved them all unconditionally.

Visitation and funeral services will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, MS on Monday, August 11, 2025. The visitation will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the service at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Clinton Therapeutic Recreation (P.O. Box 156, Clinton, MS 39060) where Geneva enjoyed playing cards and socializing with friends.

Jean Howell Puckett Born April 24, 1924 – Mize, Mississippi Passed peacefully on August 6th, 2025 in Jackson, MS

Jean Howell Puckett was born in Mize, Mississippi on April 24, 1924, to Bethel and Ruby Howell. She attended Mize Public Schools and later earned a diploma certificate from South Mississippi Charity Hospital, ultimately becoming a registered nurse.

Jean dedicated over 40 years to private duty nursing in the Jackson, Mississippi area. She was deeply respected in the medical community for her professionalism and unwavering commitment to her patients.

She was a devoted wife to her late husbands, Ernest Sellers and Lawrence Puckett. Her nursing skills were especially evident as she lovingly cared for both during their extended illnesses.

Jean had a passion for vegetable gardening and loved sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. She also enjoyed making snacks from scratch, baking homemade breads, and preparing meals for church events at Grace Primitive Baptist Church in Pearl, MS.

A lifelong learner and avid reader, Jean maintained an extensive home library. Her Bible was always nearby and a constant source of guidance and inspiration as she studied the Word with devotion.

Jean is survived by her brother, Lidell Howell; stepchildren Robert L. Puckett of Biloxi, Mississippi, Rubie (Andy) Johns of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, and Ruthie (Frenchy) Lemaire of Saucier, Mississippi; eleven step-grandchildren; and numerous great-step-grandchildren, a many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Kendall Howell, Jane Martin, Carroll Howell, and Charles Howell.

Jean will be remembered for her gentle, yet feisty spirit, her ability to laugh at her own jokes, and the love she shared with all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Grace Primitive Baptist Church, 349 Cross Park Dr., Pearl, MS, 39208.

Harold “Bud” Glynn Dear entered his Heavenly home on Saturday, August 2, 2025, in Clinton, MS. He was 87 years old. The family will receive friends and extended family for visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with burial following at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.

Bud was born on June 30, 1938, to Grady Dear and Helen Lofton Dear here in MS. He served his county proudly in the United States Army and loved hunting and fishing. He will truly be missed.

Bud is preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Helen Dear, and brother, Dearld Dear. He is survived by his sons, Joey Dear of Lafayette, LA, Johnathan Dear (Karen) of Cary, NC, and Jeffery Dear of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Sophia Dear, Josh Dear, Matthew Dear, Monica Dear, and Sara Jo Dear; and his siblings, Carol Dortch, Dianne White, Jeral Dear, Grady Dear, Rose Bridges, and Bobbie Bridges.

Helen Ragus Hinson, 80, of Byram, MS passed away peacefully on August 2nd in her home surrounded by her family.

Helen was born in Pioneer, Louisiana and spent most of her life in Natchez, MS. Helen married Natchez native, Carl Hinson and together they had four children. She retired from Natchez Regional Hospital and soon after moved to the Jackson metro area to be closer to daughters, Tammy and Dawn. She was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Byram and made great friends, there. Helen loved history and was an avid reader of historical biographies among other interests, including spoiling her daughter’s pets, especially “Tinker Bell”.

Helen’s penmanship was notable, earning her part-time jobs as a teenager scribing for members of the Daughters of the American Revolution and answering fan mail for Miss USA, Linda Lee Meade.

Helen was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and one sister. Helen is survived by her children, Tammy Taylor, Todd (Su) Hinson, Chase (Leslie) Hinson and Dawn “Dee Dee” Moran; her grandchildren Paige Taylor, Jordan Taylor, John Hinson, Reagan (Spencer) Smith, Allen (Catherine) Hinson, and William Hinson; and great grandson, Tatum Smith.

In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to Children’s Hospital, Jackson, MS. Services will be held on August 8th at 11:00am with visitation starting at 10:00am at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram with interment to follow at 2:00pm at Greenlawn Cemetery in Natchez.

We want to thank first and most of all, God, for allowing us to have been blessed by such a wonderful and loving mother for almost eighty-one years and that He allowed her to pass peacefully at home surrounded by family. We also thank the many friends from Hillcrest Baptist Church that showed great love, care, and compassion for our mother. We also thank her medical team for their care and support during her final journey.

Robert Gentry Blaine, III, known as "Rob," passed away on August 2, 2025, in Flowood, MS. Born on November 10, 1950, in Flowood, He was born to the late Robert Gentry Blaine, Jr and Isabella Mary "Scottie" fMcKenzie Blaine of Byram. He graduated from Byram High School in the class of '69.

Rob owned and operated his own business, ABC Pallets, where he was able to combine his work ethic with his passion for serving others. He exemplified a spirit of community by volunteering for "Meals on Wheels" and the Stewpot Ministry, demonstrating his commitment to helping those in need. His favorite charitable organization was St. Jude's for Children.

Rob was a man of many interests and hobbies. He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman, finding joy in nature. His love for riding motorcycles reflected his adventurous spirit, and he embraced life with an open heart. Rob's passion for scuba diving was particularly noteworthy; he served as a diving instructor and a dive master leading him to explore the waters of the Caribbean, Belize, and Bonaire. This activity was more than just a hobby for him; it was a profound passion that brought him immense joy and he shared with his son. Additionally, he was an accomplished silhouette shooter, participating in several competitions where he showcased his remarkable skills.

Rob loved history and recently took several trips abroad to deepen his knowledge of European and world history.

Rob leaves behind a cherished family who will honor his legacy and remember his love. He is survived by his children, Kandis (Brice) Dawkins of Terry, Buck (Anna) Blaine of Terry, and Robbin (James) Cook of Mound, LA; and their mother, Doris Blaine, sister, Jonce' (Joe) Blaine-Smith of Terry; grandchildren, Scottie (Bailey) Stanford, Gentry Blaine, Brennan Dawkins, Fayth Griffin, and Austin Cook; and great-grandchildren, Lincoln Stanford and Waylon Griffin; and companion, Locke Barkley of Jackson;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blaine, Jr., and his great-grandson, Ledger Stanford.

Rob's impact on those who knew him, both family and friends, will live on through the memories they hold dear. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit of generosity. He lived a life rich in love, service, and adventure.

Mark Gabriel Peszynski passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025, in Flowood, MS. He was 64 years old. The family will received friends and extended family for visitation from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence, MS. The Celebration of Life will follow at 4:00 p.m.

Mark was born on June 7, 1961, to Bruno Joseph Peszynski and Dorothy Nell Highers Peszynski in Detroit, MI. He was raised in Royal Oak, MI, but has lived in MS for 16 plus years. Mark served his country in the United States Navy and was a machinist for Rockett, Inc. He had a quiet nature and loved classic Rock ‘n’ Roll music. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, and spending time with friends and family. Especially his grandchildren. He will truly be missed.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents; Bruno and Dot Peszynski; and his brother, Joseph Peszynski. He is survived by his daughters, Nicole Marie Stampley (Michael) of Pascagoula, MS, and Ashley Ann Flippen (James) of Pascagoula, MS; grandchildren, Nicholas Shane Vinzant, Ashton Gabriel Peszynski, and Harper Grace Durval; sisters, Pamela “Pam” Peszynski (his twin) of Royal Oak, MI, and Gail Willis (Patrick) of Waterford, MI; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Lathan Carlyle Brown, eighty-seven years old, peacefully passed away July 31st, 2025 at his home in Terry, Mississippi surrounded by loved ones. He died from complications resulting from his battle with Parkinson's Disease over the past several years.

He was born August 21st, 1937 to the late Dessie Myrle and Lloyd Brown of Bruce, Mississippi.

Lathan was the beloved husband and best friend of his one and only love of nearly sixty0eight years, Bunnie Brown. The devoted father of Carl Brown (wife Jackie) and Gina Brown Scott (husband James P.). The doting grandfather of Olivia Brown, Courtney Scott Sumrall, Cassidy Brown Upton, Nikki Scott, and Alex Mangieri. The VERY proud and loving great grandfather of Carter Sumrall.

e was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Dessie Myrle Nrown and brother, Homer Brown (wife Wilma). He is survived by siblings, Dwight Brown (wife Donna) and Judy Caples (husband Philip).

Lathan graduated from Bruce High School, Class of 1955. He served in the United States Army for two years, He enjoyed his work as a wholesale florist manager for over forty years.

Lathan was an active member of Highpointe Baptist Church in Raymond, Mississippi where he often sang. He loved to sing and listen to music. He greatly enjoyed bowling and was also a skilled gardener.

Lathan will be remembered by family and friends for his kindness, his thoughtful nature, his sense of fun, his love of life and his love for his savior, Jesus Christ.

William “Bill” Tucker, born on July 11, 1958, in Jackson, Mississippi,to William Tucker, Jr and Katherine Jones Tucker. Bill passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, in Clinton, Mississippi.

Bill was a dedicated professional who served as a superintendent for the Mississippi Department of Transportation, where he made significant contributions throughout his career.He was not only known for his professional achievements but also for his love of the great outdoors. He found joy in fishing and spent countless hours embracing nature, which provided him with peace and fulfillment.

He leaves to cherish his memory a beloved daughter, April Molinari, along with three grandchildren: William Paxton Norwood, Sianna Maylon Molinari, and Daxter Kason Molinari. Bill is also survived by four sisters, Melanie Kraft (Rob), Ginger Polleck (Ric), Wende Timlake (Todd), and Lesa McFarland, as well as a brother, Alan Tucker (Sheila).

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Robert Allen Grantham was called home to Heaven on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, surrounded by his family and his friends until his final moments. Robbie, or as he was known to those who love him: Rob, Roup, Rooster, Racker, Robster the Lobster, Roberto, “Champ”, “Legend”, most importantly; friend, uncle, brother, son, and Dad; lived his life until the end by leading with love, kindness, and his incredible sense of humor.

Robbie was born on December 2, 1968, to parents William “Troy” Grantham and Janice Barron Grantham of Florence. Robbie went on to become an accomplished athlete in his youth, even going with the Florence Eagles to the high school football playoffs his senior year. Once he graduated high school and college, he went on to work in utility sales in Baton Rouge before returning home to Florence in 2014.

Those who know Robbie knew his two greatest passions were cheering for his Ole Miss Rebels and being a dad to his two girls, Averie and Tailor. He raised his girls with faith and made sure they always knew how proud of them he was and how much he loved them. From running them around to friends’ houses and school and sports games to making it to every college and sorority family weekend, he always had the music going so he could sing along.

He loved all things music, movies, and trying new restaurants with his daughters and his customers. He loved traveling, especially to the mountains and oceans out West.

He is welcome to heaven by his beloved mother, Janice Grantham; his paternal and maternal grandparents: W.J. and Viola Grantham, and Carlos and Maggie Barron, respectively. He is survived by his daughters, Averie and Tailor; his father, Troy; his brother and sister-in-law, Darin and Nicole, and their three children Chandler, and his wife Sally, Wyatt, and Madison.

Visitation will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home on Friday, August 1 from 5-7:00 p.m. then again on Saturday, August 2 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with services proceeding immediately after.

Laura Evangeline May Smith of Jackson, Miss., passed away on July 26, 2025 at home after bravely living with glioblastoma for the past year. She was a much beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter-in-law and friend. Born and raised in Oklahoma City, she moved to Hattiesburg, Miss. and attended the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). It was in Hattiesburg where she would meet her husband, Chris. Laura lived and worked for several years in New Orleans, returning to Mississippi to marry and start her family. Laura’s greatest loves were her three precious children, her husband and her animals. She loved classic horror movies, history, documentaries, music, and was extremely creative, enjoying many types of crafts, including making doll houses. At heart, Laura was a caregiver. She loved all creatures, great and small. Her neighbors often saw her sitting on the ground caring for the neighborhood cats. She had a decoration collection for every holiday. Chris said she would decorate the living room like a kindergarten class. And Laura was gentle. Slow to judge. Quick to comfort.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, John Morris May and Janis McQueen May, and her grandparents Dudley and Larue Rogers McQueen and Morris and Mary Grace May. Laura is survived by husband Christopher Allen Smith; her three children Finnian Revis Smith, Helena Grace Smith, and Sophia Larue Smith; her sisters Erin May Price (J.T.) of Birmingham, Ala., Heather May Kid (Billy) of Tupelo, Miss, Jennifer May Dickey (Richard) of Tupelo, Miss.; her niece Madeleine Price; her nephew Benjamin Price; her parents-in-law Pamela and Ronald Smith; aunts, uncles; cousins; and many beloved friends.

A visitation and informal celebration of Laura’s life will be on Saturday, August 9 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, Mississippi (7225 Siwell Road, Byram, Miss. 39272). In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the National Brain Tumor Society (braintumor.org), your local humane society, or a non-profit of your choosing.
