Today, we welcome the beginning of spring, a powerful movement toward increasing daylight.

These rhythms are mirrored within us. Just as the year unfolds in four distinct phases, so too does the human heart hold four chambers. When we become quiet enough to listen, we may sense and hear the subtle variations in its pulse—the unique qualities of each chamber—echoing the changing nature of the seasons themselves.

The heart is our inner timekeeper. In a world filled with pressure, speed, and electromagnetic noise, it can become more difficult to feel fully present in the right place, at the right time.

If you can, take a few moments over the coming days to step outside. Let your awareness soften. In the presence of the Living Earth, the heart remembers. It begins to settle, to attune, to realign with the deeper, more original rhythms inherent in all of us - but it is up to us to create the time and space to remember. Let your heart remember to sing!

Eclipse on Tuesday, February 17th - Chinese New Year:
This upcoming eclipse energy can be understood as a shift in systemic regulation:
In Five-Element terms, this feels like a strong Tree–Fire activation. Tree governs direction, decision, boundaries, and vision. Fire accelerates and amplifies whatever is already present. When Tree energy is clear and centered, acceleration feels like momentum. When Tree energy is constrained or Liver energy is stagnant, the same energy can feel like irritability, anxiety, or overwhelm.

An eclipse symbolically “dims the Heart light” for a moment, allowing deeper patterns (often unconscious ones) to surface. This can reveal where our energy is leaking, where our boundaries are weak, or where we are overextending.

The key at this time is not emotional drama but regulation:

Support the Liver with simplicity and clear decisions.
Protect the Heart by reducing over-stimulation.
Anchor the Kidney through enough rest and steady rhythm.
Strengthen the Spleen by simplifying inputs — physical and informational.

Gentle structure, clear boundaries, well prepared foods, deep breathing, and early sleep will go further than digging deep into emotional drama and over-analysis.

This is a good time to:

Choose fewer commitments and do them well.
Conserve your energy and body.
Build what is sustainable.

As we move from autumn into winter, the seasonal energies draw inward, guiding us to grow deeper roots and lighter wings. This is a sacred moment to simply accept yourself as you are — with balance, kindness, and care for others.

In Taoist cosmology, we now enter the time of the Lower Emperor, who governs the Water element, the kidneys, emotions, and ancestral energy. Dark, grounding foods — wild rice, black rice, black beans — nourish these systems beautifully. You can also support the Water element by gently visualizing your kidneys filling with clear, cool light, restoring strength and allowing impurities to flow away.

Join me for our upcoming cooking class on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and the follow-up Q&A session on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
This is more than a cooking class — it's a remembering of our deep connection with body, Earth, and cosmos.
