*Tuesday* will be here before you know it — and we'll be hosting our first session of Playing with Words! Have you registered your teen for our upcoming series of poetry writing workshops? ✍️

In this series, participants will learn about the art of poetry and work on their craft together. We'll be focused on fun and enjoyment, rather than precision, meaning anyone can join, no matter their experience or interest in poetry! As our instructor John told us, "If you think you don’t like poetry, this workshop might change your mind. If you love poetry and writing, this workshop will give you the opportunity to share your work."

Sessions will be held four Tuesdays in a row from September 9th - 30th. The cost for all four sessions is $100, and tickets can be bought at ShanthiProject.org/events. The deadline to register is Friday, September 5th at 5 PM.

We had a great time tabling at Emmaus High School's open house last week! It's always a pleasure talking to students and their families about the benefits of mindfulness — especially at the start of a new school year, when anxieties can run a bit higher than usual. Great turnout and great vibes, many thanks to EHS for having us. Go hornets!

What does it mean to join Shanthi Project's membership program, the Veres Society? Well, like our founder Denise Veres showed us back in 2010 — it means committing to a better world. It means showing up for our community, one mindfulness lesson at a time. It means believing that every person has the capacity to grow in kindness, empathy, and connection.

This level of commitment to our mission is why we want to give a very special thanks to two Veres Society members who signed on as Pioneers earlier this year: Paul Braden and Paula Herron Braden. We're sending our gratitude to them for supporting our vision of mindfulness and ensuring that we can continue our vital work throughout the Lehigh Valley. Thank you, Paul and Paula!

Have used Legos lying around? We want them! For the next month, we're hosting a Lego Drive at our new location in Easton. The more Legos the merrier!

Your donations will be used for our community-based children's programming — namely, an upcoming mindfulness-meets-Lego-building class for children in grades 4 - 6. More info on that coming soon! 👀

For now, we'd be so grateful to receive your forgotten Legos. We can't wait to give them a second life as tools to teach children in our community about living mindfully. You can find more details about drop-off in the photo below, but if you have any further questions, feel free to leave a comment.

The benefits of meditation extend far and wide — way beyond the individual person! In fact, peer-reviewed research finds that the act of meditating can also help you care for and support others in your community. This is called the "social ripple effect:" a phenomenon that explains how one person’s behavior, mood and attitudes can spread through and beyond their social networks.

Our Story

TEACHING SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL RESILIENCY THROUGH THE PRACTICE OF MINDFULNESS.

Shanthi Project is a 501(c)(3) education nonprofit providing evidence-based mindfulness services to more than 4,000 children and adults annually across the Greater Lehigh Valley and New Jersey. Committed for more than a decade to education and advocacy, we are an established agency in the Trauma-Informed Education Movement, and the local authority on building resilience in an increasingly complex 21st-century world.

We offer the benefits of mindfulness, which increase mind-body self-awareness, reduce stress and improve focus. Our work promotes positive emotions that help others learn important skills to establish, or re-establish, healthier and more productive relationships at home, school, work, and within their communities.

We are led by passionate individuals and a team of certified teachers who are trusted by a variety of community partners in Lehigh County and Northampton County, Pennsylvania, as well as Warren County, New Jersey. During the 2019-2020 school year, Shanthi Project worked with 44 schools in 10 districts, teaching 4,000 students in 168 classrooms, and supporting more than 250 teachers and support staff throughout the area.
