Hey, you might be new around here. I’m glad you’re following along and I think it’s time I re-introduce myself. I’m Jonathan, but most call me Jonny [with no ‘h’]. I believe in people for a living and help them towards being the best version of themselves. My official title is social worker and I love the profession so much I recently earned my third degree in it, the Doctor of Social Work (DSW) and joined the 7% of Latinos to hold a doctorate. I’m a researcher on trauma, minority stress, and issues in higher education. I’ve practiced in several areas including child welfare, the court system, substance use services, psychotherapy, community education, victim services, police social work, and ER/medical social work. My colleagues and family inspire me daily.
I’m transitioning out of being a student to now focus on passions, projects, and the goal to teach at the collegiate level. In my free time, I enjoy reading and traveling (unpop opinion- sometimes I like the road trip more than the destination). This instagram space has been my digital journal, documenting milestones in my doctoral and social work journey. I have so much more to share and I think it’s really cool that you’re here. I recently came back from some post-grad travels and will be recovering from some nasty sunburn (swipe to see pic of me smiling through the pain). Thanks for being here!
