International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually as a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
This year's theme is - DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality," highlighting gender gaps in STEM education and careers — and calling attention to the online harassment many women face.
Think About It...
- Is your digital consumption benefitting your life in an inspiring and healthy way?
- Is the digital space tweens and teens live a positive and safe place to engage?
Right now in the media, mainstream news and social media platforms are pitting female celebrities against one another like Selena Gomez and Hailey Beiber, celebrating cancel culture and creating a place for harassment and bullying. Why are feuds between women always highlighted by social media instead of positive acts women are achieving every single day?
How can we use digital platforms to empower girls to use them as a tool to learn, express themselves and create positive change in the world?
Today is just one day to highlight women's achievements in STEM and tech. Let's spend the rest of the year creating opportunities for girls to have access to STEM programs, propelling their innovative ideas into reality. We can't wait for the day where 50% of a room is filled with women in tech.
