Save and share ❤️🙏

29/04/2026

You wouldnt expect to run if you had a broken leg. Yet you expect yourself to perform as per usual with an under-recovered brain. Shared this with … and now you. Sleep isn’t the enemy - stop treating it like it is. ❤️

NAP PROTOCOL - Save and share! 😁🙏❤️

WAKING AT 3AM AND RETURNING TO SLEEP - THIS TRICK HAS A 70% SUCCESS RATE IN CLINICAL PRACTICE! Shared in my Coles keynote, and now with you 🙏

First… WHY it happens and WHY 3am.

* Cortisol, an awakening hormone, usually rises at 3am to prepare for wake the next morning
* If your baseline levels of cortisol are too high (or you have a misaligned cortisol awakening response), you will wake up
* This is usually 3am (or soon after)

HOW to return to sleep

* THE FIRST STEP is to get up out of bed
* The more your brain associates bed with sleep and sleep only, the easier it is to return to sleep
* This is a foundational principle in CBT-i, cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia
* It has a 70% success rate with clinical insomniacs
* Results are seen in 2-3 days

I will share the rest of the protocol with you soon, but first, emphasising this step - it’s often overlooked, and this keeps you stuck.

I shared this strategy in ALL my keynotes… it is the number one problem for professionals.

From my keynote with Coles Group - how lack of sleep impacts our brain health and raises risk of dementia.. sleeping only 6 hours rather than 7+... seems harmless, right? Wrong.

1. Lack of sleep = increase in beta amyloid, a neurotoxin to disrupt neural communication (you know when you know you know something, but you can’t seem to recall it at the time?)

2. Beta amyloid plaques in the brain = hallmark sign of Alzheimers (difficulties retaining information, recalling information.

3. Long term, 30% increase in risk for Alzheimers when sleeping 6 hours rather than 7+.

AND WHAT IF YOU DON’T HAVE CAPACITY TO SLEEP ENOUGH? (PARENTS, TRAVELLING, STRESS, EVENTS)

Know that quality trumps quantity - focus on maximising deep slow wave / REM sleep, and this helps buffer against consequences of inadequate sleep length, including cognition.

——

Think of beta amyloid like fog on the road.

The road still exists.

We just can’t see it.

Our memories still exist.

We just can’t access them.

-—

You may not be diagnosed with Alzheimers.

But are you seeing the signs?

And more importantly.... is it linked to your sleep schedule?

If it is, prioritising on your sleep isn’t preference, it’s protection - protection of your cognitive capacity, your ability to think, your ability to decide.

This is exactly what I share in my keynotes - to check availabilities, email my team today - hello@thesleepretreat.com.au.

I’d love to support you and your team, seeing you thrive in weeks, months and years ahead.

“What will make the GREATEST impact in your sleep, recovery, energy and next day clarity? Listen in - as shared with YPO, now with you!

Protect the last hour before bed.

Research shows we are 52% more likely to take over an hour to fall asleep when using TV in the last hour.

We know it - but are you actioning it?

Have you created a system for success to enable your tech free time?

Start with a shower - it helps physically break your scroll cycle.

It also helps you produce melatonin, the biological signal for sleep itself.

Then have a planned tech free time activity - for me, I get creative in the evening, so I love reading about design and fashion... and it keeps me away from my phone.

That’s my system for success.

I share this in my keynotes - so if you want to equip your team with the expert insights and strategies to sleep, rise and thrive, reach out.

And lastly - thank you for the interview YPO - incredible production by Igor Riccelli!

As shared in my keynote for top performing CEOs at - ‘I don’t have a problem falling asleep… I have a problem staying asleep.’ Sound familiar?

For high performers and executives, this is the sleep pattern I see most.

You’re exhausted enough to fall asleep…
But your brain? Still in performance mode.

You wake at 2–4am.
Alert. Thinking. Planning. Problem-solving.

Here’s what most people miss:

Light spikes cortisol.
And cortisol is your awakening hormone.

So that quick phone check at 3am?
That flick of the bathroom light?

You’ve just told your brain:
➡️ “It’s morning. Let’s go.”

Broken sleep isn’t just frustrating - it’s strategically expensive.

It compromises:
• Decision-making (prefrontal cortex fatigue)
• Emotional regulation (higher reactivity, lower resilience)
• Executive function (focus, memory, strategic thinking)

In other words:
You’re not just losing sleep.
You’re losing your edge.

This is the exact framework I share in my keynotes - with YPO and all my high performance group.

In doing so, I don’t need to sell sleep. Sleep sells itself. Sleep becomes a strategic advantage, I simply support awareness.

If you want your team to harness sleep science for peak performance - let’s talk.

SLEEP AS STRATEGY: PERFORMANCE, CLARITY, CAPACITY. From my YPO keynote - reframing sleep as an opportunity for greater success - rather than an obstacle.

Especially for high performers, we can often see sleep as the enemy. Restricting hours to get all we need to get done, done.

The thing is, the exact opposite is true.

Sleep refines and restores optimal cognition, clarity, composure.

So much so that with inadequate sleep, due to impairment in our prefrontal lobe, we see our cognitive performance match a BAC of 0.05 - drunk.

Really.

You would never let yourself come to work drunk.

Nor would you reasonably expect to be productive, effective or efficient if you were drunk.

Coming to work fatigued?

It has the same effect.

This is exactly why - sleep is a strategy.

A competitive advantage.

Something we can harness to get ahead.

Grateful to share this with YPO and now you.

CEOs - leverage sleep or get left behind, it’s that simple.

Being selected as a Thought Leadership Advisor for YPO is giving me goosebumps - this first keynote with YPO was only 2 weeks ago. TWO WEEKS!

Good things take time.

Great things happen at at once.

But… it’s not ‘at once’.

9 years of study.
+
8 years of professional work.
+
50+ hour weeks for a month prior to this session.

17 years in the making.

…. And I couldn’t be happier or more honoured to take this position.

YPO is a global community of founders and CEOs shaping industries and influence at the highest level. To be invited not only to speak, but to contribute more broadly to thought leadership within this network, is something I hold with enormous pride.

Sleep is no longer a wellness topic.
It’s cognitive insurance.
It’s emotional resilience.
It’s lifespan, healthspan and longevity.

The most progressive leaders understand that sustained performance is the ultimate competitive edge.

If your team, chapter or leadership network is focused on performance, resilience and long-term cognitive protection — this keynote needs to be on your roster.

Sleep is not a filler - it’s the foundation of sustained success.
