Sharing this for my new followers! This explains why living donation is the best way to get a kidney.
Hello again my followers! First, Happy Holidays to all of you!
Now, let's talk about live donation!
Live donation, or living donation, is the best form of donation for someone living with kidney failure.
Why, you may ask?
Living donation is the fastest way of donation. Within 6-12mo, the surgery will take place, whereas with a deceased donor, the wait time can take years, often more than five.
Living donation has the best outcomes for the recipient. What this means is that the kidney is healthier than a deceased donor kidney. There hasn't been any trauma associated with the living donor, and therefore the kidney hasn't suffered.
Living donor kidneys work instantaneously. Hook em up, and they start producing urine ASAP! Unfortunately, a deceased kidney doesn't always work right away, if at all. It will be traumatized from the accident that took the life of its owner. It could take a few days for it to wake up and start producing urine. Worst case, it never wakes up and unfortunately the surgery was for naught.
I don't want the second possibility. I want a living donor. I want a kidney that works a soon as you hook it up. I want to look my donor in my eyes personally, and thank them and hug them for saving my life. I didn't get that chance last time, as I didn't know my donor.
Please, if you or anyone you know is even remotely interested in being my honor, being my match, being my way of living a normal life again, please message me. Even if you just have questions about donation and are curious!
