Well it’s been a while since I’ve posted a posey pose…

I’ve had a very tight, painful and weak right hip for over a year, so I’ve been doing a much more gentle yoga practice for a long time.

I believe it’s the menopause - the drop in oestrogen that has been the culprit. So I’ve avoided more dynamic practices as it’s been so painful: catch 22.

I’ve recently been given the all clear for any nerve damage/sciatica so I am moving forward into building the strength back, safely.

I had a few PT sessions with who gave me a few great workouts which I’ve been loving!

I’ve been doing a few more dynamic classes too, sometimes with my gorge (like today just before this pic) and sometimes online with who does a menopause strength class and also online classes through in New York 🙌🏼 and yin with Bernie Clark or and gentle self practice.

I’m still no where near what I used to do which was 4 - 6 hours a week of yoga. So I’ve really been focusing on my meditation and pranayama practice instead. Yoga Nidra and Transcendental Meditation 🙌🏼

Thanks mate 📸 💛

One of the quotes from last night’s Summer Slowdown.

I’ve been quoting this for a few years now, nothing says it better.

I am just at the end of his book: The Art of Stillness: Adventures in Going Nowhere - it’s excellent!

Summer Slowdown Sunday Service

Thanks to all of the gorgeous yogis who joined me last night.

We slowed down in every way, something that is lacking in modern life. It’s something very close to my heart at this stage in my own life - slowing down has transformed my perimenopause experience!

Give yourself some space to breathe.

Next one is 7 September, booking through my website - link in bio.

Theme for September is GRATITUDE 🙏🏻

This was the first line of Norman Blair’s newsletter this morning.

Norman is one of my teachers. I did his advanced 9 day yin teacher training course a few years ago, which was incredible.

I just don’t understand the world at the moment. I sobbed onto shoulder after her class this morning about it, whilst at the same time thinking - I feel so privileged and grateful to be able to go to a yoga class, in a beautiful studio, to live a safe and stress free life. We are lucky. For now.

I bring inner peace to myself through my own practice, and can bring that to others. Practice is an oasis right now.

The world is changing, in many ways. Gaza is so upsetting, I just don’t understand it.

More from Norman’s email:

“What is happening in Gaza and the West Bank is like a psychopathic boa constrictor slowly suffocating its prey – the Palestinian people – to death. Gaza is the killing fields. Israeli journalist Gideon Levy just wrote: “Denying Gaza’s Starvation Is No Less Vile Than Denying The Holocaust.”

I have some of ‘s latest small book of inspirational and thought provoking quotes, I’ll be bringing them to hatha tomorrow and to The Sunday Service for whoever wants one. I have quite a few.

Feeling incredibly grateful for friends, old and new, family and human connection.

I’ve had such a wonderful summer catching up with a lot of my long time friends who I’ve either not seen for many years or who live far away from me, or both. Family too - I have no close relatives living near to me.

I recently read ‘The Top Five Regrets of the Dying’ by .ware , which was a wonderfully insightful and life affirming read.

One of the regrets was losing touch with old friends. Value and cherish your friends my friend, community and connection is EVERYTHING 🪬

I really do feel very blessed to have such wonderful people in my life, to have reconnected with many who know who I’ve been and who I’ve become, who’ve loved me throughout. I love yas!!!

And thanks to my new(ish) mate for these lovely henna tattoos 💛

My Story

Through being a yoga teacher and an artsy farty type I have opened an Etsy shop selling yoga eye pillows for savasana, relaxation and sleep. Visit my shop: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/PenJaLiYoga

I had always dabbled with yoga and meditation since after my mum died in 2000; I found that it helped me tremendously. I had developed quite a strong practice by 2014 when my dad became ill. I found that the yoga gave me the strength to look after him and cope with the grave situation. Following his death I went off to India to do my teacher training. I did the training to help my grief, never with the intention to teach. Being there and learning what I learned gave the calling to teach and to share with others these skills that had helped me so much however it took me a couple of years to teach as I was still grieving.

Teaching has been the best thing I have ever done in my life, being able to share the small amount of knowledge I have gained (yoga is a vast subject), and make a difference to others, has been so humbling and rewarding.

Yoga really has transformed me into a better and happier person. From my late teens and throughout my 20’s I had chronic depression and also suffered a lot of family illness and bereavement, stress and heartache. I believed and accepted that depression would be with me for my whole life. Through yoga, meditation and a few lifestyle changes I have not suffered from depression for many many years and am now happier than I have ever been! It really can be such a transformative tool for a happy fulfilled life.
