Nominations for Early Career School Psychologist of the Year, School Psychologist of the Year and the Gostelow Excellence in Leadership Awards close on Friday June 27th 2025.

The Awards presentation ceremony will take place at the annual SPAWA Awards Night on 27th September 2025 at the Aloft Perth(tickets on sale very soon!), and aims to:
▫️Recognise exemplary practice in supporting young people, families and whole school communities;
▫️Showcase achievements in School Psychology across WA,
and
▫️Inspire others across the field.

Please note that the nomination procedure for the Gostelow Excellence in Leadership Award differs slightly from the other awards and information regarding this is on the subcategory page for this award on our website.

SPAWA recently hosted its Summer Sundowner, bringing together our Life Members, former Committee Members, and Friends of SPAWA. The evening was filled with insightful discussions about connecting, informing and inspiring school psychologists across all three education sectors.
We took the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the invaluable ongoing contributions of our Life Members, Friends of SPAWA, and current committee members. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, as well as to those who couldn’t join us but continue to support SPAWA.

Learning outcomes:
* Outline the benefits of considering and connecting with a child’s family, school/early learning service and community as part of disaster recovery approaches.
* Identify how disasters can impact the various aspects of a child’s ecology, and how this may increase the child’s risk of experiencing mental health difficulties in the immediate aftermath or longer term.
* Describe strategies that support children’s relationships, regulation, communication, meaning-making, self-expression, routines and support networks in different environments and contexts following a disaster.
* Discuss ways to involve children and the important adults in their life – their parents, extended family and kin, educators and community leaders – in recovery interventions.
