The number on the scale is only one small piece of the metabolic health puzzle.
Your metabolism is influenced by muscle mass, hormone balance, nutrient status, blood sugar regulation, and even stress levels - none of which the scale can tell you.

We focus on deeper markers like lab testing, body composition, and lifestyle habits so you can truly understand your health, not just your weight.

✨ Services that support metabolic health:
Hormone testing & optimization
Weight management programs
Nutrient testing & replenishment
Stress & sleep support strategies

Your health is much more than a number. 💛

After age 35, your body naturally begins to lose muscle mass in a process called sarcopenia. This doesn’t just affect strength, it impacts your metabolism, bone health, hormone balance, and even how your body burns fat.

Here’s why upping your protein matters as you age:
- Preserves muscle mass → critical for metabolism and daily strength
- Supports hormone production → amino acids help create key hormones
- Aids weight management → higher protein keeps you fuller longer
- Helps recovery → muscles and tissues repair more efficiently
- Supports bone density → protein works with calcium & vitamin D to protect bones

At Rooted Health & Wellness, we can help you assess your nutrition, check for deficiencies, and build a plan that supports your body through every stage of life.

Your body uses cravings as a way to communicate what it might be missing or struggling with.

While not every craving points to a deficiency, patterns can be valuable clues about your nutrient levels, hormone balance, or even stress response.

Here’s what different cravings might be telling you:
Sweet cravings → could be signs of unstable blood sugar, low chromium, or a need for more protein/fiber to stabilize glucose.

Chocolate cravings → often linked to magnesium deficiency or PMS-related shifts.

Salty cravings → may signal electrolyte imbalance, adrenal stress/cortisol dysregulation, or low aldosterone function.

Ice chewing (pica) → a classic red flag for iron deficiency.

Carb/bread cravings → could be driven by low serotonin precursors, chronic stress, or the body seeking quick energy from refined carbs.

Cravings for red meat → may reflect low iron, zinc, or B12, especially if fatigue or brain fog are present.

Dairy cravings → sometimes linked to low calcium or a need for gut-soothing fats, but could also mask inflammation or intolerance.

Spicy food cravings → may relate to sluggish digestion, need for metabolic stimulation, or even diminished dopamine signaling.

Crunchy/salty/snacky cravings → could be cortisol-driven (stress), or a sign of habitual reward-seeking when nutrients like omega-3s or B vitamins are low.

Caffeine cravings → often the body’s attempt to override fatigue from adrenal strain, poor sleep, or blood sugar swings.

These are clues, not diagnoses. We can help you test (micronutrient panels, hormone labs, blood sugar markers) and interpret what your cravings are trying to tell you, then build a personalized plan to address the root causes.

Changes in your cycle can be your body’s way of saying something deeper is going on.
Some changes are normal with age or lifestyle shifts, but others may signal other health concerns.

Signs & symptoms to watch for:
📆 Shorter or longer cycles than usual
💧 Heavier or lighter bleeding
🔥 More intense PMS or cramping
🌀 Mid-cycle spotting
😴 Extreme fatigue before or during your period
💭 Mood changes or brain fog

These changes could mean:

- Perimenopause or hormonal shifts
- Thyroid imbalance
- Stress or adrenal fatigue
- Nutrient deficiencies
- PCOS or other reproductive conditions

Why it matters:
Your cycle gives insight into hormone balance, metabolism, and even cardiovascular health. Discussing changes with your provider means getting to the root cause - not just managing symptoms.

📅 If you’ve noticed changes, let’s talk. We can run comprehensive labs, review your symptoms, and create a plan that fits your needs and health goals.

Still not feeling “normal,” but your labs always come back normal?
Tracking your symptoms can help connect the dots.

Why it’s important:
✨ Shows patterns over time that labs may miss
✨ Helps you understand how lifestyle, food, stress & hormones affect you
✨ Gives your provider clear information for a more targeted plan

Ways to Track Symptoms:
📝 Use a journal or symptom tracker app - jot down energy levels, mood, digestion, sleep, and cycle changes
📆 Track cycle phases (if applicable) - note PMS, cramping, spotting, flow
🍽️ Log triggers - foods, stressors, sleep quality
📊 Rank severity - (mild, moderate, severe) so patterns are easy to spot

Symptom tracking turns vague frustrations into measurable information. It empowers YOU and gives your provider a clearer picture of your health.

Tossing and turning more in the summer?

Seasonal changes, especially in summer, can disrupt your circadian rhythm and make quality sleep harder to come by.

☀️ Why summer can throw off your sleep:
Longer daylight hours = later bedtimes
Hotter temps = harder to stay cool at night
Travel & schedule changes = inconsistent sleep routines
Increased alcohol or late-night meals = restless nights
More screen time (hello, summer downtime) = less melatonin production

Changes in your hair, skin, and nails can be more than cosmetic. They’re often early signs of nutrient deficiencies and imbalances in your body.

Here’s what to look for:
✨ Brittle nails - low biotin, iron, zinc, or protein
✨ Dry, flaky skin - deficiencies in essential fatty acids or vitamin A
✨ Hair thinning or shedding - low iron, vitamin D, zinc, or thyroid imbalance
✨ Slow wound healing - low vitamin C, zinc, or protein
✨ Mouth sores or cracks - deficiencies in B vitamins or iron

Why it matters:
These deficiencies can impact more than appearance - they affect hormone health, immunity, metabolism, and energy levels.

🧪 Functional lab testing can uncover deficiencies so you can target what your body actually needs, instead of guessing.
