Read to learn more about the effects of Crohn's on women:

Fertility and Pregnancy:
Crohn’s and IBD is marked by intense flare-ups where symptoms dramatically worsen. While fertility in women with IBD generally remains unaffected, it may heighten the likelihood of pregnancy complications. Women contemplating pregnancy can collaborate with their gastroenterologist to manage their IBD, ensuring symptom alleviation and inflammation control prior to conception.

Anemia and Fatigue:
Inadequate nutrition, reduced iron intake, and bleeding resulting from IBD can result in iron-deficiency anemia in both genders. Similarly, menstrual blood loss can contribute to anemia. Consequently, women with IBD face a greater risk of developing iron-deficiency anemia compared to men. Common symptoms of anemia include fatigue and low energy levels.

Living with Crohn's disease can have a profound emotional impact. The unpredictability of symptoms, the need for frequent bathroom breaks, and the potential for flare-ups can lead to feelings of anxiety, stress, and depression. Furthermore, the invisible nature of the disease can lead to feelings of isolation and misunderstanding, as others may not fully comprehend the extent of the condition or the challenges it presents.‍ to sign up for our free counseling or donate to our ministry, click the link in our bio!

People with gut issues are more likely to have depression and anxiety. The gut makes neurotransmitters which means that when gut health is unstable, mental health can also suffer. Dr. Nazarenko PhD and phycologist says that, “people with digestive disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) — Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis — are at a greater risk of mental health conditions”.
