It's National Food Day and one of the cool themes today is all about “Eating Real.” Basically, it’s about cutting down on sugary drinks, super salty packaged foods, and fatty factory-farmed meats. Instead, let’s focus on munching on veggies, fruits, whole grains, and sustainably raised proteins.
The idea is to make food that’s not just healthy and affordable, but also good for the planet. Plus, we want to keep in mind the well-being of farm animals and all the awesome folks who grow, harvest, and serve our food.
How can you observe National Food Day? Learn about healthful eating and sustainable farming. Other ways to celebrate include:
1. Reading some food labels. Learn where the food you eat every day comes from, what's in it, and more.
2. Challenge yourself to try a food you've never eaten before.
3. Plant herbs to use in your kitchen.
4. Start a compost pile to use in your garden.
5. Discover a healthier way to cook your favorite foods.
