Comment LOVE if you’re interested in learning more and I can pass along a special discount 💕

This play kit was heavily focused on fine motor skills but as you can see from the sample words I listed, you can turn literally any toy into an opportunity to model language and get your little one to communicate!

⚠️ Mistakes you’re making when giving your toddler directions - Part 2 ⬇️

Negation words completely reverse the meaning of a sentence. Remind you of those hard test questions with double negatives? Imagine what it’s like for your toddler!

Children aren’t expected to comprehend negation directions until 3-5 years old! (Although they understand “no” much earlier)

Phrase your directions in a simple, positive way instead. Scroll through to look at some examples ⬆️

YOU NEED TO READ THIS ⬇️

Whether your child is verbally speaking or not, they all deserve to have a voice.

Here’s a few examples of what that looks like 👇🏼

1. Stopping what you’re doing and listening when they’re trying to communicate with you.

2. Respecting their communication attempts. Whether they’re saying something verbally, pointing, grunting, even crying, they’re trying to communicate something to you. It’s your job as their parent to figure out what that is and show them their communication is valid.

3. Have fun with them, without constantly quizzing them or trying to get them to “use their words.”

If you’re looking for some assistance with building your toddler’s language skills…

Doors to my Speech Pathways course will be opening again in May, and you can sign up for the WAITLIST now so that you’re the first to know when it’s open and get special VIP pricing. Just comment COURSE and I’ll send it right over.

And if you are just looking to see if your child is saying enough words and what is expected at their age, comment WORD and I’ll send you over my free first words milestones and tracker 💜

DON’T MAKE THIS MISTAKE ⬇️

Conditional directions are the most common mistake I see parents make when giving their toddler directions.

Conditional directions rely on a certain condition.
If x, then y.

Sound confusing? Remind you of your deductive reasoning math class? Imagine what it’s like for your toddler!

Children aren’t expected to comprehend conditional directions until around 3 years old, and if your toddler has a speech delay it will most likely be even later than that, so when you make this mistake they most likely don’t understand what you’re saying!

You’ve been following the free speech tips you see online to get your toddler talking.

And if that’s helping your child, GREAT! 🥳

But if that’s NOT helping your toddler, it’s actually HURTING them. And until you get them more support, they’re going to get further and further behind.

🫶🏼Are you ready to get your child the help they may need?

Comment COURSE and I’ll send the information right over!

Prices go up at midnight TONIGHT and doors close in 2 days!

Don’t overthink it, mama 🫶🏼

Narrate what you’re doing and what your baby is doing during playtime, mealtime, bath time, transitions, bedtime, etc. They’re soaking up all that you’re saying, even if they don’t use those words until weeks or months later.

What questions do you have about modeling language? Let me know in the comments 👇🏼

This sounds SO easy but it’s actually quite hard.

This special playtime means…
🚫NO phones
🚫NO screens on in the background
🚫NO multitasking (I see you mamas always doing 10 things at once)

Try to spend at least 10 minutes a day playing with your child with NO distractions or interruptions. Remember to narrate what your child is doing and narrate what you’re doing.

For me personally, I constantly have to ensure I’m actually PLAYING with my toddler and not just WATCHING her play.

Let me know in the comments any questions you have about play ⬇️

Is your toddler starting to say more words and you’re wondering how and when they’ll start putting two words together?

❤️But first, don’t forget to LIKE, SAVE, and SHARE this if you found this helpful 🫶🏼

Swipe through to see 5 skills they often need before starting to put two words together.

💕If you aren’t sure how many words your child is saying, comment WORD and I’ll send you my free first words milestone and tracker to help you keep track of how many they’re saying.

✨I suggest printing and keeping somewhere handy (like on the fridge) so when you’re playing or doing daily routines you can quickly jot down the words you’re hearing.

Typically, we see children start using two-word utterances by 2 years old.

If you’re worried about your toddler’s language development, I have a course coming out in the next two weeks where I’ll guide you through every step of getting your child more support- from first identifying if and how your child is behind in their language skills, what next steps to take if they’re behind, and how to advocate for your child’s needs.

Comment “COURSE” and I’ll send you the link to my waitlist.

This is NOT a course where I’ll give you a few speech strategies and send you on your way. You will leave the course feeling PROUD, EMPOWERED, and CONFIDENT that you are doing everything you can to help your little one.

Get on the waitlist now to be the first to hear when it opens AND to get a nice discount. I’m only taking the first 50 people who sign up before the doors close for a couple months so you don’t want to miss this opportunity! If you’re on the waitlist you’ll be the first to know when doors are opening 💕

Imitation Hierarchy!

💕Imitation is the foundation of language acquisition and how we learn everything around us. If you’re having trouble getting your toddler to repeat words after you, scroll through this hierarchy and see if you can figure out which stage they are on.

👉🏼 Once you figure out where they currently are, you can slowly move up the stages from there! There are so many skills that must come before your child verbally says words.

👋🏼 If you’re new here, hi! I’m Jen Lozier, I’m a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist and mom. I provide practical and realistic tips to develop your baby or toddler’s language skills.

DID YOU KNOW…

1 out of 5 children develops speech and language at a pace slower than their same-aged peers. Some children will catch up to their peers by Kindergarten while others won’t.

A language delay can be a signal there is something more going on that requires specialized intervention.

MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE…

👉🏼Just because your toddler’s language is delayed does NOT mean one of the above is the cause!

👉🏼Just because the cause of your toddler’s language delay is not noted above (sometimes the cause is completely unknown as all children develop at different paces) does NOT mean they are guaranteed to catch up to their peers without specialized help.

✨HOW I CAN HELP…

I have a course coming out soon where we’ll look at milestones for birth through 4 years old, red flags and things to look out for in case something deeper is going on, and ways to address your child’s speech delay right away and get them the help they deserve.

Comment COURSE and I’ll send you the link to my waitlist. I’m only taking the first 50 people to sign up before the doors close for a couple months so you don’t want to miss this opportunity! If you’re on the waitlist you’ll be the first to know when doors are opening 💕
