๐ŸชฌPerception is everything.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธHow we see the world has been filtered through every past experience, every happy memory, every regret, disappointment, trauma of some kind, our up bringing, the culture we are raised in, ect.

We can liken our perception to a mirror.๐Ÿชž

When the mirror is fogged up or marked, the image reflected back to us changes and is not actually a true representation of what is reality.

Yoga is similar to the concept of cleaning the mirror so our reflection is clear and true. ๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ

Tapas is a Sanskrit word (เคคเคชเคธเฅ) that refers to discipline, austerity, or inner fireโ€”a powerful concept at the heart of personal transformation.

The root word โ€˜tapโ€™ in Sanskrit means โ€œto burnโ€. Itโ€™s the burning away of anything thats in the way of a sincere spiritual practice. Impurities of the body, mind and soul are released theough Tapas physically, energetically and spiritually.

Itโ€™s one of the Niyamas of yogic philosophy which is the second of the eight limbs of yoga.

For me personally, itโ€™s been a guiding light (pun intended) to remind me to not expect the path to be easy. Instead, to welcome the tough days and to trust that through the fire is the path of transformation. Through challenges lies growth, insights and even liberation.

For yogis, this Tapas or inner fire is what helps to create calm within. It also refers to the discipline required for any change to take place. Like steel being heated in order to forge and shape it into something useful, this is like Tapas.

If you would like to bring more Tapas into your life, here are some waysโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ”ฅWake up early and do things to set the tone of your day

๐Ÿ”ฅStick with things when they get challenging. In asana, put a little more effort into the things that challenge you.

๐Ÿ”ฅTake cold showers or do cold plunges. May sound odd to exercise inner fire with cold but immersing in cold is challenging and a simple way to train yourself to hang in there when things get hard.

๐Ÿ”ฅMental discipline- challenge your negative thoughts-invite more of the thoughts you want to cultivate-more calm, more peace, more compassion-less anger-less blame-less jealousy

๐Ÿ”ฅBe committed to your higher values even when itโ€™s challenging-honesty, generosity, kindness. Stay true to what you believe.

Hope this helps to reframe those tough days. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

Christine brings a deep passion and wealth of knowledge to the practice of Yin Yoga, and I couldnโ€™t imagine a more aligned partner for this training. Together, weโ€™re combining our years of teaching and practice to create a comprehensive and meaningful experience.

This training is designed to be truly unique with five days of in person training and a library of online content to complete at your pace. Weโ€™ll explore the foundations of Yin Yoga through both Western anatomical principles and the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine, while also integrating a trauma-aware, accessibility-focused approach to teaching. Our goal is to empower teachers with the tools and understanding to offer classes that are informed, inclusive, and deeply supportive.

This training isnโ€™t just to teach yin yoga, but also perfect for anyone wanting to explore the yin yoga practice more deeply and to support their personal practice.

If youโ€™re curious to learn more, click the link below for full details. Early Bird Tuition is now open, and weโ€™re currently accepting expressions of interest. Spots are limited for this training and thereโ€™s been a lot of interest, so please get in touch to know more or check link in bio.

Why I love Yoga?

For those of you who are friends or followers, itโ€™s no secret that I have had a long love affair with yoga. I found yoga in my early 20โ€™s when I was definitely on a meaning seeking path and looking for alternative options to what I was surrounded by at the time which was addiction and addictive behaviours. I saw myself falling into that world and it really didnโ€™t fit well for me.

When I found yoga, it was like it turned on a light inside. I had the opportunity to feel my body from the inside out and notice parts of myself I was disconnected from. It started as a physical process, but quickly began to incorporate how I lived my life. Eventually I was able to let go of unhealthy habits and start to study yoga and yoga philosophy more which gave me an insight into the workings of my mind. How I was getting stuck in attachments, fears, selfishness, ect...

Over the years, my practice has evolved and I can say these days, thereโ€™s a lot more meditation and energetic aspects of yoga such as pranayama. For me, my yoga practice feels like coming home. Throughout the ups and downs of my life dealing with significant grief and loss, one certainty that helped me through was my daily yoga practice.

For most people my age, in their 40โ€™s or beyond, by now, we have hit a few bumps in the road in life. The ground gets shaky and without some sort of practice that helps you to anchor yourself in the present moment, to ground, to centre, to come back to yourself, itโ€™s easy to get lost in the sea of uncertainty.

Over the years, my practice has evolved and I can say these days, there's a lot more meditation and energetic aspects of yoga such as pranayama. For me, my yoga practice feels like coming home. Throughout the ups and downs of my life dealing with significant grief and loss, one certainty that helped me through was my daily yoga practice.

For most people my age, in their 40's or beyond, by now, we have hit a few bumps in the road in life. The ground gets shaky and without some sort of practice that helps you to anchor yourself in the present moment, to ground, to centre, to come back to yourself, it's easy to get lost in the sea of uncertainty.

My wish for everyone and really the reason I teach yoga today is to empower people to develop a practice that bring them back to their centre. That supports a deeper connection to the spiritual presence that lives inside their heart.

Last year, I trained in yoga therapy and I'm still currently studying Clinical exercise physiology to help people with therapeutic ways of connecting with their bodies in a healing way. The practice that I always come back to as something healing and lasting is the Mysore style practice. This is rooted in Ashtanga Yoga which many people think of as a challenging yoga practice and that's true to some extent, but it's more about the individual. Because this practice is self paced in its purest form, it offers the opportunity for more embodiment and self enquiry. The yoga practice meets each student exactly where they are and slowly, day by day, helps them to stretch their capacity to breathe, to feel and to embody.

This year, I decided to offer a yoga retreat, built on the foundation of the traditional Mysore method and it was a beautiful experience. So I will be offering this again in Oct/Nov of this year in Japan. It's an intimate space carefully curated with all details in mind from the travel, to the places we stay, to the experiences that partner with the yoga program. Nature treks, Japanese hot springs, Zen teachings with local monks and much more.

If this interests, you, please reach out. Early bird prices available until July 31st and flights to Japan from Australia are a good rate for that time. I hope you can join me on this journey.

India has long been a place of rejuvenation and respite for me. A teacher of how to live in alignment with a higher purpose and power.

If you feel the call to join myself and Kaya Slater in India next year for a potent 10 day retreat in the Himalayan foothills in India, a land where the mysticism of Tibetan Buddhism and rich cultural heritage of India meet, reach out.

We will spend our time steeped in a deeper internal awareness coupled with the compassion, rawness and soul that is India. It will be a one of a kind journey.

Just one day remaining for Early bird rates!

For women over 40, maintaining pelvic floor strength & stability is so important and it doesnโ€™t take much or take a lot of time to stay on top of.

A lot of yoga poses are great for building pelvic floor strength, but itโ€™s also easy to do things with poor form and not really focus on activating the muscles that need to activate relying on larger muscles groups like arm and leg areas to do the work which leads to fatigue and hypertonic (over contracted) muscles in those areas. This can lead to shoulder, neck, hip pain, knee problems, a whole host of issues.

Instead, focus on the little movements that help you to feel connected to the pelvic floor and lower abdominal area. My favourite ways are in poses like bridge pose (number 3 in the images) or the table top block activation (number 6 in the images) which looks so simple, but is a super effective way to activate the pelvic floor muscles.

If you want to learn more about this and get some guidance on bringing this into your yoga practice more, join me on July 5th for an in person workshop at my studio, the Nambour Yoga Centre.

Spots are limited. Check out the details below.

If you canโ€™t join us for that, but still would like some guidance, Iโ€™m also currently filming a new online class all about the pelvic floor and yoga. Just comment below โ€œYESโ€ if youโ€™d like me to send it to you!

An area of the body we may not pay too much attention to and yet is so important for functional movement is the pelvic floor, also called pelvic diaphragm.

These simple poses can help improve blood flow, calm the nervous system to reduce stress and soften the pelvic floor which promotes healing.

Try them out and let me know how you go! ๐Ÿ˜€

Still steeped in the magic of Japan, I already miss it.

And yet, one of the lessons Iโ€™m taking away from this trip is to live in the moment, to always do my best and to find the little Buddha inside of me thatโ€™s open hearted and kind.
