"Home is where there is abundance of food". Thousands of Flamingos have decided to make Mumbai their home even though initially they migrated from Kutch for the winter. Just a gentle reminder to all of us that life can be simple if we decide to embrace contentment.

Having trouble finding words to get back to where I want to be. Sharing my life journey and the lessons I have learnt seem the true essence of ICare by Shivani Manchanda The silence of these 2 years seem hard to explain. Except one big lesson I learnt was "I cannot pour from an empty cup". So it was important for me to heal before I could get back to sharing. This journey of healing in these last 2 years has been full of dark deep holes filled with depression, despair and darkness. However spring is coming back I am sowing seeds and flowers are beginning to emerge. I hope, ny friends, you would look with compassion towards my silence and allow me to speak again This is your counsellor Shivani Manchanda reaching out and saying I will walk with you again.

Our Story

Hi I am Shivani Manchanda, Counselor For Positive Mental Health, Student Wellness Centre IIT Bombay. I invite you to make this page your home if you are looking for a daily dose of motivation, inspiration and regular tips on succeeding in IIT-Bombay. Use this page as your “Safe Space” whether you are part of the LGBTQ community or stressed or troubled or beautifully happy. I myself constantly seek inspiration and would like to confess that ICareIITB is my constant companion and intrinsic to my desire to “pay it forward”. I have been known to add updates in the middle of the night when inspiration strikes me or early morning when I open my eyes to a lovely sunrise. I am a mindfulness student as I keenly observe my external and internal world. I passionately feel that we all need to make a difference in this world and after 20 years of running my own Counselling company I joined IIT Bombay in an attempt to do the same.

When I joined IIT Bombay as a Counsellor in 2012, almost every student I interacted with told me, frustratingly, how they were able to manage their own emotions and did not really “need Counselling”. Therefore, I started my stint here by training SMP and ISCP Mentors and also started a series of workshops to “test the waters” with IIT Bombay students. Students were initially wary but I was able to win them over with my sense of humor, fun art activities and non-judgmental views. By 2014 my workshops - the EQ series of workshops, Productivity Skill workshops - were catching on. The USP of these workshops remains the fun colourful visual aids, easy to remember tips and detailed handouts I give. However, the thing that still bugged me was how do I reach students who were still not coming for the workshops, either owing to time constraints or shyness. So, on July 2014 I started this page, which students could “Like” or “Stalk” depending upon their comfort level with Counselling. Needless to say the students turn to this page in large numbers during stressful periods and examination times.

On a more practical note apart from my Masters in Counselling in the USA I have also done some courses in Positive Psychology, Learning How To Learn, Su***de Prevention and Managing Technology Addictions. The ICareIITB team apart from yours truly consists only of my Android phone which helps me take mindful pictures of the campus, and my crayons, the scribbles of which reflect daily student life and its concerns. My think tank exclusively includes the large number of students I interact with on IIT Bombay campus and the quiet but steady emails that I receive as feedback. For those of you who would like one on one counselling then the Student Wellness Centre has several friendly and helpful counsellors whom you can meet in our vibrant office on 3rd Floor of the Main Building or in your Hostel (by rotation).
