Traumatic events push the nervous system outside its ability to regulate itself. For some, the system gets stuck in the “ON” position, and the person is overstimulated and unable to calm themselves. Anxiety, anger, restlessness, panic, and hyperactivity can result when you stay in this ready-to-react mode. 〰️

Lying in teens is pretty normal. Here are some things to consider once you've caught your teen in a lie.
1. Stay calm- freak out on the inside but stay calm on the outside. 🦋

2. Don't personalize it- most of the time, teens lying have nothing to do with the parents and more to do with them.

3. Continue to reiterate the importance of honesty- talk to them about the consequences of the negative impact on relationships and how it creates a space of mistrust.

4. Continue to model honesty- teens are listening and watching everything you are doing. ❤

5. Remember it's a process- establish appropriate consequences if necessary and recognize that it may take some time for them to break the habit of lying.
