Tayla is a 27 year old with many diagnoses, including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Dysautonomia, Small Fiber Polyneuropathy, and Gastroparesis. In 2015 she started the journey of looking for a service dog to help with her medical issues. After 4 years and 4 dogs later she started to lose hope. The first dog was a puppy, after a year of training she didn’t work out. She would get car sick every time, and was terrified of everything. So she moved onto her brother, and after a week of having him he growled at her baby niece and she would not accept that. So onto the third one. She was donated to the trainer and she had her for almost 3 years. Her service dog skills were awesome. However, her dog aggression got worse and worse. Tayla would be terrified to bring her somewhere in case a dog was nearby. So onto the fourth dog, Tayla had her for about a month, she didn’t even know basic obedience. So after crying over another failed dog she finally gave up. She cut ties with her original trainer and decided to just get an emotional support dog to help with her mental illnesses.
Mama is a 2 year old Pitbull/Boxer (?) mix. She was found in an abandoned hotel with 4 newborn puppies.
Tayla had no intent of turning her into a service dog. However, Mama quickly became attached and clung to her instantly. Tayla goes to weekly hospital infusions and the nurses told her it was okay to bring Mama in since they’ve seen every other dog and It is a small room with not many patients (since the hospital was in the middle of relocating). They were shocked at how well she was. They said she was the best behaved out of all of them!!! Even Tayla’s friends and family were shocked at how loving and wonderful Mama is. Mama is very smart and loves to learn.
Tayla and Mama have both seen lots of struggle in their lives, but finally the world has brought them together. So Tayla has found a new organization. However, since Tayla never got her money back from the first trainer, she is struggling to come up with the money herself. Mama will learn to help Tayla with her balance issues/dizziness, she will pick up items and hand them to Tayla, press handicap door buttons, use deep pressure therapy, etc.
