We’re getting back on the read aloud train again. A friend gave us a heads up about this book at so if you’re a member go snag it because it’s so dang beautiful.

I posted in my stories today about bone broth hot chocolate. I turned my nose up this week when it was recommended. I had a little taste test before the kids and it wasn’t too bad folks. The kids drank it without knowing I slipped it in there. One of our children doesn’t eat much and they need some kind of nutrient in their body. I’ve been making homemade hot chocolate and it’s divine, so decided to add the bone broth this go around. Owen even says it’s better than (watch out, Dunbar house is coming in hot) 😆 I’m gonna post the recipe below in case ya want to give it a try.
Yields 2 cups!
☕️3 tbsp chocolate chips(dairy free)
☕️2-3 tbsp maple syrup
☕️pinch of Celtic sea salt
☕️1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
☕️1 1/2 cups dairy free milk of choice (I love macadamia)
☕️1 cup of plain bone broth
☕️1/2 tsp vanilla extract
☕️bonus* add a drop of peppermint vitality for a little extra pizzazz.

Meals are hard you all. We feel like we’re on this hamster wheel and we can’t get off. Spending our days in the kitchen and barely coming out for light. Sooo....with a recent discussion we’re gonna try our hand at prepping this week. Like hardcore, hours in the kitchen for one day to see if this helps.

Our new(ish) food protocol has us cooking 2-3 times a day. 😅 There’s pros and cons for everything the good and the bad. It’s what you choose to make of it. Welp, we’re making it in a day or two in hopes to spend less time cooking meals, because these meals now a days aren’t quick.

First you was the super easy prays gluten and dairy free Dutch baby pancake. 😋 If you have good prep tricks leave them below so we can all take notes!

I thought I’d introduce myself. It’s been a minute.

I’m Britney some call me Brit. I am a future FNTP and I’m freaking excited about that. I started my holistic crunchy way of living years ago and it all began with oils. Yep. I’m that gal and I’m A-ok with it. Each step I’ve taken has brought me here. Brought me to pursue this lifestyle and education journey. I’m living in Louisville, KY with my husband of 10 years! 😱 He’s not really on IG these days. We’re raising our babes who are 7 and 3. I became a homeschool mama and have thoroughly enjoyed it...more than I ever thought imaginable. Don’t knock it til you tried it. I was V hesitant about choosing this and even on those hard days, I’d choose it all over again. I have a dream of owning some acreage, maybe a garden of flowers, food, not sure but i need green space in my life. Life has always been a weird roller coaster and in 2019 life got a little more intense for my family. I think I learned more about myself and my relationship with God on the darkest days of my life that year. If you’ve not felt or experienced your redemption story yet, hang on because it’s the most beautiful experience you’ll ever walk through. My body took a toll and I struggled with Anxiety/Depression and was diagnosed with Hashimotos and y’all it’s gone! A story for another time. 2020 was difficult, but again for me I truly found some life giving moments and true healing in my body.

My goal in this space is to take you along the ups and downs. The oily things and how we DIY the crap outta it to save $$ annnd now on to health things as I learn about them. The homeschool things. My goal is to sprinkle a little joy and awkward on the interwebs with glimmers of hope. If you’ve read this far, I’d love to get to know you! Share something about yourself below.

We’re tightening our budget up this year and I needed to find a way to stretch good quality hair product. Found a lil’ hack and made my conditioner into two bottles. This will last me months. I wash my hair once or twice a week. That’s it. So I’m gonna have this for a minute.
+
Here’s what I did.
🧼 half conditioner (5 oz)
🧼half distilled water (5oz)
🧼shake bottle + sit for at least a day
🧼 reuse your bottle to reduce reuse recycle ♻️

Money 💰 saver tip FTW. DIY queen is about to dive more into DIY so buckle up buttercups. We’re gonna go on a ride. We may run into tricks that are gold and we may run into tricks I never want to do again. We’ll see!

Got questions about stretching your products? Hit me up 🤙🏼

We’re that weird homeschool fambam over here! It’s messy and we’re dressing up like superheros in hopes that we can make it through our lessons without tears. 😅A short temper and small break to bust out costumes and we were back at it with better attitudes and lotsa giggles.

I wasn’t feeling it today. After some struggle to get going and broken glass in the sink, we did it. We turned our day around. Rubbed my joy roller over my heart, diffused stress away, and eventually flowed to some yoga. Ready to finish out my Monday with a better attitude and knock out my todo list.

If you could turn your day around, what’s one thing that sparks your motivation or attitude?

Mom + Dad

Went on a day date today and we had an uninterrupted icy 🥶 walk through the woods. We threw rocks and sticks onto a mostly frozen pond, walked through a little dam, and honestly it was dreamy. We talked through how we wanted to support each other this year, how we want to parent more intentionally, and prep our food because we’re wiped from constantly living in our kitchen😅😆 today was a great way to end a heavy week.

The in between, it’s a bizarre place to live and somehow we’re finding the space to slow down and fine the beauty there.

After a difficult and heavy week, where are you finding your peace, your beauty?

If anything comes out of 2021, I hope it’s more days outside even in 30* weather.

This morning was an early one, where one child crawled into bed and just looked at me while I slept. It was creepy AF. Followed by tears at some point from one of the three of us. So many thoughts and not enough ways to process it all. So some of the time outside was absolutely amazing and there were zero tears. Also, we need a pile of rocks in our backyard and these kids will play forever.

Here is to more communication, more pouring our hearts, more active listening, more forgiveness, more starting over, pursuing each other. 2021. Ready or not here we come.

Might be a contradictory situation I have here but it’s New Years and I’m treating myself to a DIY face mask, reading for school, annnnd drinking a Mimosa while the kids rest.

2021 you’re gonna be one helluva ride and I can’t wait or maybe I can, to see what’s coming. I’ve got my eye on moving forward that’s gonna set us up for more generosity, more loving, learning, intentional time together, giving ourselves grace, growing some businesses, learning how to build said businesses.
I’m 👏🏼 here 👏🏼 it 👏🏼 all 👏🏼

This day started with high emotions and every word spoken was taken as devastating to the kiddos. We almost did a little restart. Tired bodies equals all the emotions. Anyway, I rubbed Joy oil on their spines and said a little prayer, Lord knows we needed some intervening.

I had little to no hopes of school happening before heading into the lab today. What could’ve seemed like an unproductive day turned, ornament making, volcano videos and maps, and finishing our read aloud. Me choosing this book is for another time. 😆 we skipped parts and a chapter, but we finished. Owen slowly went upstairs to grab his handwriting to work on a page as I finished our last chapter.

I’ve learned that this homeschooling thing are surprises around every corner, doubts, wins, and lowering your own expectations. So in my book, today was a productive day. Homeschooling also looks different for everyone. It’s not always picture perfect, so stop comparing it to the people around you. It does NOT have to be pretty. It just has to work for you and your family.

T E N YEARS!!

We are celebrating a huge milestone in our family today!! God’s powerful love has been intertwined through it all. No one I’d rather go through the messes and celebrations of life with. You are a dime piece Sean Russell. Love you until my last breath.

Gingerbread houses! Our friend and realtor who owns messaged me and my friend that he wanted to sponsor one of our homeschool events. We landed on Gingerbread houses and it was such a fun little event and well thought out! Thanks Amber and Kyle!

Anywho! I’ve never made a gingerbread house in all my days and it was a messy blast! 😂 The kids did great (aka the mamas of littles knocked these houses out of the park 😉) the older kids also did some amazing work. Growing more and more thankful for these families everyday. Just a random post of gratitude for people supporting each other and trying to make the most of this year!

So dang grateful for in-laws who have space for us and all our crazy this year. They’ve housed us, fed, us, cared for our children, and just loved us well. Thank you and so so much!

We started our anniversary week off with a bang or gas leak. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Everyone is safe, but you all it’s a mess! 😆 Two trips from a plumber and 3 from LG&E (our gas company) and we finally passed! However, waking up, having breakfast, and doing school work next to this is amazing.

I’ll save my sappy post for later, but right now and throughout the week I’m gonna be posting photos of us through the years. So here is the first photo together. Circa 2009 Thunder Over Louisville.

We’re brewing up all kinds of things on this Saturday. Beer, soft scrub, gf/df cookies. I mean we’re in it to win it. Win what? Idk, we’re gonna *try* to win this Saturday with minimal meltdowns and lots of fun!

Here’s the soft scrub recipe. If you want the brew recipe ya gonna have to talk to my husband. I don’t have that, it’s not my lane. 😆

🧼3/4 C baking soda
🧼1/4 C unscented Castile soap
🧼1tbsp water
🧼 1 1/2 tsp thieves cleaner
🧼 8oz jar
🧼mix and clean away!
