The opposite of uncertainty:
The opposite of uncertainty is not certainty; it’s presence. Sometimes only when everything is so up in the air and out of control are you forced to be present and take it day by day because you have no other option.
But that's what's best for us. That's actually how we need to live to be thriving. Not thinking about the scary future and not ruminating on events of the past. But fully here, giving the best you got to today, and every day.
Your job is love, gratitude, and expectancy, not control or certainty.

Hard is not the same thing as bad
There are a lot of paradoxes in psychology—the harder you try to fall asleep, the less likely you will; the more you try to avoid thinking negative thoughts, the more likely they will pop into your head; and often, your greatest meaning in life can come from your greatest pains. Uncertainty is hard, but hard isn't the same thing as bad.
Sometimes all I need is a reframe of how I perceive what is happening:
Instead of feeling like a victim, I think- what do I want? Who do I want to become? What am I learning and who am I becoming through radical times of uncertainty? In the end, that's what matters.
I expect the best outcome. It will all work out. I choose to trust. The future will be better than the present and I have what it takes to make it so.
Your problems never go away, you just get better at solving them. The more problems, the better you get. The better you get, the better life gets.
The language you use very much influences how you experience a situation: Have to → Get to . I can’t → I’ll figure it out. I don’t like → what do I need? Not fair → don’t care.
Quality questions lead to a focused mind and creative solutions. Ask questions that challenge you, force you to get creative, and invite your imagination to go into overdrive. What if I could. . .? What is a way that I would be able to . . . ? Who can show/help me . . ? What is a new way to do . .

Uncertainty -------> Surrender
#1 His Power, Not Yours:
When living in Costa Rica, we were in a season of being fully dependent on God for everything. It was then I had some of the most radical, life-changing, and miraculous experiences of my life. Because we had to be completely dependent and had no control or certainty, I was walking in a daily connection, surrender, and cadence with God, and it led to beautiful experiences.
The times when you have no control or certainty, the times you are the weakest, are the exact times you can access His power. Those are the times you will see Him do things that you know are God because you couldn't have done it yourself. He takes you to places you never expected to go.
It’s a scary, uncomfortable, but also thrilling place to be because, in a state of total surrender, you are allowing His will to be done. His will may look different than you thought, but it might lead to something better than you could have ever imagined.
When uncertainty creeps in, I repeat over and over
I trust You.
You are good.
You are kind.
You have so much goodness for me.
I surrender everything to you.
My morning prayer: I surrender my free will to you, I ask that you guide my every thought and action. My time my mind my hands are yours, let it be done to me according to your will.
Surrendering your free will and your ideas of how you think your life should go and accepting what He has for you might take you on a wild, unexpected, and unplanned journey, but whatever He has for you is better than anything you could create yourself.
I’ve seen that. I trust that. Even now.

Sometimes you have to be completely shaken and taken and rearranged to get you in the place you were meant to be
My life is a testament to this. Anything meaningful has come from being shaken.
I've learned experience is not what happens to you; it’s what you do with what happens to you.
Don’t label any situation as good or bad, you don’t know. What appears to be tragic could bring more good than you can imagine when you look back. It may be an important part of your story, transforming you into who you need to be to fulfill what only he created to do. Some things happen that your limited human mind cannot understand which could actually be life-changing and important. What appears as a closed door could mean a better one can now open.

Eating Less and exercising more is not the formula
I have a terrible history of disordered eating. In high school and college, I knew nothing about nutrition, but I was so deep into the dieting culture that . I would drink Slim Fast for breakfast, a strawberry fraparpaccio from starbucks for lunch, and a frozen dinner or can of soup for dinner. Yikes.
Then I learned about nutrition and I was eating whole foods, but I was still not eating enough and working out like mad. I looked how I wanted, but my hormones were jacked up, my skin was crazy, and my energy was shot.
I had to go on a long, painful journey learning how to be healthy but not obsessive and discover what my body needs to be functional at it's best.
here's what I wish I knew:
- Health doesn't come from restriction. It comes from supplying and supporting your body's needs. The more nourishment the better you feel. You can eat a ton of food when it's whole and healthy. Focus on nourishing your body instead of restricting it. I promise your body will handle the rest. Maybe you don't need to eat less, maybe you need to eat more of the right things. Time and time again, when I eat more nutrients, I see better changes than when I am not eating enough. Not only in how my body looks, but in my energy, mood, and hormones, too!
- Stress affects the body more than anything else. Thinking too much about food or not eating enough produces cortisol. Cortisol makes your body hang onto fat. I remember when I stopped stressing so much about what I ate and just took time to slow down and enjoy it, everything changed.
- Focus more on what your body can do vs what it looks like. This helped me a lot in my early years, hence my season of handstands, pull-ups, and pushups haha It's not about changing your body, but about feeling energy, having balanced hormones, and having fun growing in what your body is capable of. Throw away your scale if you need to and focus on nourishing your body, moving how you love, and work on changing how your body perceives and reacts to the stress in your life so everything else will balance.

Brain fog solutions
I'm almost 32. I'm not in my twenties, but I also don't think I’m at the age where I should have brain fog and forgetfulness. But I did. Bad. I felt like I couldn't think. At one point I spent a long time doing circles around my house in search of my phone, only for my daughter to point out that I was, in fact, holding it under my armpit. True story. That was the point I needed to figure some things out. Here's what helped me, if you struggle with brain fog, maybe it will help you too.
Breathe and Move: Being a writer also means I can turn into a sitter if I am not careful. Sitting for long periods of time + the shallow breathing that goes along with it I have found to be the #1 contributor to my brain fog. It makes sense. Your brain needs oxygen, blood, and circulation to work at its peak. When I notice my brain feels like it's not jiving, I automatically get up and do a breathwork session, followed by some kind of explosive movement, and feel better immediately.
Chiropractic - I only go to the chiro when I am pregnant, which I am very much not, so it had been 3 years. I was born with a condition called Chiari Malformation, so my neck and spine are already at a disadvantage. It's like pathways to my brain were blocked and getting aligned opened them back up. As much as I hate going to appointments, I realized being aligned actually makes a huge difference.
Methylene blue: My health practitioner friend gives methylene blue to all her clients struggling with brain fog, and I have to say, I feel like it’s working. Either way, I feel like I am doing something good and preventative for my brain each day as it's well-known for improved mood, increased energy, and enhanced cognitive function.

When emotions are stronger than you. . .
The moment my daughter was placed in my arms for the first time, I had to force myself to breathe. My first time getting to hold her, and it was going to be my last.
The intensity of despair mixed with confusion and hopelessness felt like a physical pain that if I felt any longer, was going to kill me. Unbearable and inescapable emotional affliction rushing through my entire body.
Those moments.
I’ve had a lot of them. Life is full of them.
When the emotional weight feels too heavy to bear.
The dark seasons when everything is overwhelming and it feels like you can’t go on.
There are three things I do when I'm in that place.
- Turn toward the light
- Bring it to the light
- Remember light
------Turn Towards the light ------
In my hardest days, there wasn’t much anyone could say to help. I didn't have the energy to think or do anything to make the pain go away.
While I couldn’t create light, I could turn toward it.
Darkness cannot exist in the presence of light, and the presence of God is always light.
When light is above and around you, darkness has no choice but to leave.
Light exists, but it's not up to you to create it, you just have to turn toward it.
If you place all your attention on God during moments of suffering, He will turn them into sacred moments that become some of the most special, intimate moments of your life as His light illuminates your shadows.
Relief doesn’t happen immediately (although sometimes it does) but if you keep saying no to distractions and control your attention to take time to listen and worship, you will heal in half the time you would have if you kept going to distractions. I know, I’ve done it both ways.
-------Bring it to light-------
The enemy wants you alone and isolated. Just you and thoughts (the most dangerous place to be). If there is no one around you, no one can help you, fight for you, or see for you when you can’t.
I’m probably the most introverted person that exists. Okay, that’s dramatic, but when I’m struggling, the very last place I want to be is sharing my heart with other people.
But over all the tragedies I’ve been through, I’ve learned that’s the only way you will survive. You are not created to do life alone.
It’s so easy to grow hopeless, hard, or numb toward life when you and your thoughts are alone.
The weapon is bringing it to the light by bringing other people into your thoughts, even when everything in you doesn’t want to.
What we want is a break from struggles and suffering. But often, what we actually need, is someone to go through it with.
-------Remember the light-------
Darkness steals your attention to get you so focused on what’s wrong, that you can’t see any solutions or possibilities or anything that is right.
The more energy you give darkness, the more darkness you see.
The hardest seasons are the hardest to see in. But if you know that, you can intentionally draw your attention to truths that will shift your mind and the situation.
I remember things like. .
Eternity: This life is like 1 spec of sand in all of the sand on the entire earth compared to eternity. The only objective is to keep reminding yourself that not facing any problems in this spec of time is not what this life is about. It’s not about being as happy and comfortable as you can. That’s what your next life is for. Pain is part of it. Trials are part of it. But soon, “He will wipe away every tear and death will be no more. The pain of wounds will no longer exist, for the old order has ceased.” Revelation 12:14
take advantage of the hunger: When you are full of distraction, your mind isn’t constantly seeking God. But when tragedy or difficult times hit, you get that hunger because you need something to fill it and you realize nothing you are distracting yourself with of that will. You draw near to Him, and He draws near to you. You give most of your attention to His world, and His plans begin to be revealed to you. The most transformation often comes out of the trenches of pain because you can access places you couldn’t go before when you're in the midst of it. It’s causing you to dig deeper because you have no other option, and it’s the digging in the greater depths that gold is found.-

Here’s the thing, you can rework all the old stories, eat the perfect diet, engage in all the therapy, do mindset jujitsu, and even work through tough traumas—but if you’re not doing it with your Nervous System on board, you’re not going to create sustainable change.
Because if you’re doing any of the work from a place of survival– you can’t access healing.

Hormones and Neurotransmitters are not the problem
Let’s be real, I get caught up in blaming my hormones all the time, but then I remember what controls my hormones. I can’t blame them, they are just the messengers, not the senders.
I hear it all of the time. . . depression and anxiety are because of an imbalance of neurotransmitters. Mood swings, low energy, low libido, brain fog, weight gain etc. are because of hormonal issues.
I disagree.
Sure, you may have too low or too high hormones (testosterone, progesterone, etc) or low serotonin (or dopamine, etc.), but that’s not the problem.
Often people think hormones are the root of symptoms, but they are not. What caused them to be low (or high)? That’s the root. If you just focus on taking something to raise your hormones or neurotransmitters, that isn’t fixing what caused them to be off in the first place.
Hormones are messengers. They tell cells what actions to take- but they are simply delivering the message, not writing it.
Hormones are messages written by your brain based on safety and energy.
The hormones produced are dependent on what message the body is sending.
If you want to change your hormones, you must change the message.
Hormones (or lack of them) do change how you feel and look, but they’re not the starting point for problems.
There is a hierarchy that controls what your s*x hormones do.
You guys, I had an entire course just dedicated to hormones so I could write about this forever, but to keep it short (ish) and sweet:
If you want to balance your hormones and neurotransmitters, you have to start with the building blocks that create them/tell them what to do
focus on cortisol: controlling your perspective of stress, the story your body needs to be telling your brain is that you are safe and you have energy. Things like tricking your body that stress doesn’t exist, turning your smartphone into a dumbphone, and having a daily awareness, perception, and focus practice like this.
focus on insulin: managing your blood sugar by nourishing it with real food and avoiding sugar, vegetable oils, and constant snacking. Apple cider vinegar or berberine at meals is an incredible tool for managing blood sugar.
focus on oxytocin: Oxytocin is one of the most healing molecules that exist. Far more powerful than anything you can consume. Great news: prioritizing love and touch and deep connection actually fixes your hormones.

Grounding as a health treatment
I like to track my nightly resting heart rate and heart rate variability to see how well my body is responding to my life. You know what’s crazy? The biggest factor I have found that lowers my resting heart rate and increases my HRV is. . . grounding. Not fasting, not eating well or not eating before bed, not avoiding alcohol/caffeine. I’ve tried it all and grounding is definitely the factor that makes my body respond to stress well.
It makes sense.
Our bodies accumulate an excess of positive charges and free radicals from radiation and environmental toxins.
Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage DNA and cause aging, oxidative stress, and inflammation in the body.
The earth’s surface is full of negative electrons. Harnessing free electrons allows the body to pair these excess positive charges with a corresponding negative charge and instantaneously negate the inflammatory effects.
Free electrons short-circuit inflammation and neutralize free radicals wherever they may be present in the body.
Having your bare feet touch the earth daily is one of the most healing, restorative, rejuvenating, (and free) things you could do for your body.
I prioritize grounding daily over supplements or any other health device or treatment. It’s just that good.
