Treating PTSD With M**A-Assisted Therapy

MAPS' pivotal Phase 3 trial teated 90 patients with severe, chronic PTSD from any cause with an average duration of 14 years. Participants were randomized to receive three sessions of either M**A or placebo with identical talk therapy. 46 participants received M**A therapy and 44 participants received therapy with placebo.

Among the participants in the M**A-assisted therapy group, 67% no longer qualified for PTSD diagnosis after three M**A-assisted therapy sessions, while in the placebo group, 32% no longer qualified for PTSD diagnosis at the two-month follow-up.

"While many forms of PTSD therapy involve recalling previous trauma," says lead author Jennifer Mitchell, Ph.D., "the unique ability of M**A to raise compassion and understanding while tamping down fear is likely what enables it to be so effective." maps.org/m**aptsd2021
