When I lost my father, a dedicated physician, at fourteen, it ignited a quest to understand health at its core. Around the time of the Human Genome Project’s completion, I shifted my focus from philosophy to epigenetics—proving that our genes aren’t static but dynamic stories we can rewrite through daily choices. Food, once a symbol of family, pleasure, and tradition in my Italian upbringing, also emerged as a biological signal capable of shaping our genetic expression. With over 17 years of research, including pioneering work at Stanford University, I’ve seen that nurturing well-being isn’t about deprivation or complexity. It’s about rational optimism, finding joy in simple habits, and integrating evidence-based science into the rhythms of everyday life. My approach turns complexity into clarity, helping you use small shifts—like what you eat, how you move, and how you think—to guide your genes toward resilience and longevity. 🚨 Most doctors still recommend folic acid universally

But here's why we need a more nuanced conversation 👇

Let me be clear: Folic acid = one of the greatest public health successes of our time. Food fortification dramatically reduced neural tube defects, saving millions of lives 🙏

But science evolves. So should our recommendations.

What we now know:

- ~50% of people have MTHFR variations affecting conversion

- Unmetabolized folic acid detected in 96% of US blood samples post-fortification 🚨

- Potential risks: → Masking B12 deficiency → Suppressing immune function
→ Affecting s***m epigenetics

The methylfolate advantage: ✅ No conversion required ✅ No accumulation ✅ Equally effective for folate status

The challenge: We'll never have spina bifida data for methylfolate like we do for folic acid. We can't replicate such a massive public health experiment.

But should we ignore genetic and epigenetic rationale? 🤔

This isn't about disregarding folic acid's benefits. It's about championing continuous health optimization ⚡
