Gosh do we love our Mamas. This sweet and sassy thing took the challenge (metaphorically of course) and ran with it. We ask a lot of you. We ask you to look inward. To go deep. To meet us in places where you’re afraid to go. Places that stretch you and grow you. Because that’s exactly what you’ll have to do in labor. To meet yourself somewhere new, a version of you not born into this world yet. And let the magic take over!
This beautiful family worked with me throughout their pregnancy, worked with one of the best doula I’ve ever had the pleasure of training 😉 for her birth, trusted her partner, her baby, her team, and herself.. and rocked an incredible out of hospital birth. I love when women actually get to see their power and fall in love with themselves. Witnessing this never gets old and as always.. is such an honor.

Do you know the #1 benefit to breastfeeding? The absolute one??? It’s not the incredible colostrum that helps babies immune system, prevent allergies, and establish their microbiome, or the hundreds of other reasons the health industry are all taking colostrum. It’s not the countless benefits to Mom including reducing her risk for the big C. It’s not the perfectly tailored nutrition for each and every stage of babies life, or the weight loss for mom and lower risk of PMADS. It’s not even the fun little quirky benefits people don’t know as much about like the increased REM sleep nursing mothers get allowing them to function better as they wake up so often for a small baby. It’s certainly isn’t how the breastmilk even becomes the antibodies that baby needs when mom is exposed to sickness, creating it perfectly little healing concoction for a sick baby. The list goes on of all the selfish reasons to breastfeed and I promise there are just as many for mom they we can get into, as there are for baby.

Coming in at NUMBER ONE … it’s how mom has to slow down, tune in, pick up her baby, breathe and relax, then latch her baby for 20-40 mins. Just her and baby… bonding, breathing, learning each other. This is not to say that bottle moms and babies can’t have a similar experience. They can. Though the tendency of our busy lives is to prop up a bottle or pass baby to another caregiver so we can just “get a few things done”. We all have so much on our plates as mothers… that is to be expected.
There is no greater benefit to mom or baby, than the process of mom holding, loving on, and connecting to her sweet babe. Which is a requirement of nursing. It’s such a special thing for babies to experience and so important for their health. This is also why women shouldn’t be shamed into nursing, if it isn’t for them. So here’s my advice…
Mamas who don’t want to nurse but gave it the good old college try… don’t resent nursing.. STOP.. find an amazing and high quality formula and use bottle feeding as a way to slow down, and connect with baby. Hold that baby, and let them feel all your love. And for nursing Mamas…. Use that time to do exactly the same. 💗

Walker Birth Story… the doula perspective ✨

Victoria called me early in pregnancy, asked me to meet and made it very clear what a blessing this baby was to her and Justin. She was intentional, and would commit to investing her time and energy into making it the best experience possible. This is music to a doulas ears! We know the time, work, and intention that goes into this process and I was so grateful she was preparing herself for that. Victoria.. the entire pregnancy, birth, and postpartum has been so present with herself and maintained a curiosity that’s allowed her to self reflect, find awareness, and learn something every step of the way. To learn about this transformational time, but also learn more about her body, about herself, learn her baby, and so much more.
She carried this curiosity and openness throughout labor. Like most births, things did not go to plan. As she moved through the eb’s and flow’s of labor, Justin was there to love on her, remind her, and bring her back home to herself each time. I think my favorite part about her birth was her ability to reflect and speak out loud what most women experience on some level internally. Like any first time Mom, she found herself frustrated about how long of a process birth is. Especially once entering the hospital, normal and natural progress of birth is often stalled or much slower. That’s to be expected, though it can complicate things a bit. We found patience, perseverance, and forged ahead each time. Many times I watched her work through her own fears, advocate for herself, speak her truth, set boundaries, and bring this new version of herself into the world. It was incredible work and she DID it! Birth demands of us to shed layers of ourselves. Ones we can no longer take forward with us in this new skin. In this new life, and as this new version of ourselves. A Mother who previously did not exist. With that comes new challenges each time. Beginning that work during pregnancy, and sometimes even pre-conception is not only valuable, it’s necessary. Victoria learned what every Mother must….

I have more memories as a Mother now, then I can probably remember without them. I’ve only become so much more myself because of them. I’ve only fallen more in love with living life because of them. I only ever want to be better and better… because of them. There have been days when I’ve literally felt like the most incredible Mom, completely crushing the motherhood game and really proud of who I am. Other days, the failure and pain has been so real, I’ve questioned if I was good enough for them.. if they deserved better. What I do know, is they are mine and I’m everything to them. So I’ll continue to show up big, and enjoy every moment I’m lucky enough to be their Mom.

Happy Mothers Day to my wonderful Mama I am SO grateful for. I love you so much! Happy Mama’s day to all the beautiful women and Mothers in my life I’m in such awe of. To my best friends I get to enjoy watching this beautiful chapter, I’m honored to see the Mothers they’ve become. To the clients I get to witness grow and walk side by side into Motherhood with. To the Mamas who don’t get to come home and hold their babies tonight. To the babies who don’t get to be held by their Mamas. To the women longing to be Mamas. And to the Mothers who done get the title of Mama. I see you, I celebrate you, I send all of you so much love. And to my children, I have had the most incredible time… enjoying being your Mama!

Happy International Day of the Midwife! We found this photo and it was too good not to use. It’s sorta ironic in its own way too! The whole point of the holiday is raising awareness about the midwifery profession and the importance of the role.
We are so grateful to all the amazing midwives who serve our community, as well as the midwives all of the world. A special shoutout to one of our favs and today just so happens to be her birthday

Doulas take the best photos! I obv didn’t take the first photo, though I love it! It really captures so much of birth work and usually the part moms don’t remember… (us supporting them through A LOT of it lol) the brain forgets a lot of birth but the body remembers 💗 so does the heart!
The second photo is my favorite photo I’ve ever seen of incredible and I’ll tell you why.
I see… a mother. A tired, GORGEOUS, hard working, Mother. There is a moment in every birth where a woman births a new version of herself. Witnessing Victoria do that with such bravery and grace… will be one of the highlights of my doula career. Not because it wasn’t hard, not because it went perfectly. Because I got to watch her live out loud so much of what women process internally.

Birth is just so phenomenal.

Many of you have been on this journey with me for a long time. I’m so grateful to opening the and community doors to be five years ago. Pregnant myself, teaching doula trainings, childbirth ed classes, and workshops. This space has been so good to me. I’ve shared so many memories, brought friends along and made new ones on the way. I found my own Mama friends, and learned to train and heal in a safe way supported by professionals who had my back, even when I didn’t feel ready. Never pushing to hard, but just enough when needed. Always a loving heart and helping hand. Such a special gem in my own growth journey. 🌸

This space will always be a sister space and community to me. Expanding into my own home and opening up our doors to our friends & Mama community is a dream come true. I cannot wait to see you all next month at the new studio.
