The College of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners of Ontario (COMPO) is a self-governing body, established by the osteopathic manual practice profession (not the Ontario government) to supervise its osteopathic manual practitioner members in Ontario in the public interest. COMPO has seven councils, administered by ten elected osteopathic manual practitioners and six nominated non-osteopath members o
f the public. COMPO is not a regulatory health college as defined by the Regulated Health Professions Act of Ontario as osteopathic manual practice is not a regulated health profession yet in Ontario. Membership in COMPO is voluntary as COMPO is not yet a member of the Federation of Health Regulatory Colleges of Ontario. COMPO does not represent all OMPs in Ontario. However with over 500 members it is the largest osteopathic manual practice organization in the province. The public should realize that the authority of COMPO applies only to its members, not all practitioners in Ontario. COMPO sets entry-to-practice requirements for its members, establishes standards of practice which its members must follow, requires members to participate in ongoing continuing education and a comprehensive quality assurance program, and investigates complaints about its members and takes appropriate action. COMPO has published the first Fee Guideline for its members, which is a great step towards standardization of osteopathic manual practice in the province.
