Get to know a family legacy at WellSpan!

Dr. Ridgley Salter’s own well-being journey as a physician inspired his son, Dr. Nick Salter, to pursue medicine. Dr. Salter has chaired the WellSpan Medical Group Physician and APP Well-being Council since 2018, leading efforts that have earned national recognition.

Dr. Nick Salter joined WellSpan this summer — following in his father’s footsteps and drawn to the supportive culture his father helped build, including, virtual well-being conferences, support groups and a digital portal that sees over 3,000 team member visits per month.

We’re proud to welcome Dr. Salter x2 to the WellSpan family – and even more of the dedicated efforts underway to support our team members! 💙

5-year-old Mae Kint just celebrated a big milestone – her first day of kindergarten. But that’s not the only milestone she’s celebrating. Mae just finished reading 1,000 books before starting school. That’s right – 1,000, and she doesn’t plan on stopping.

The Franklin County Library System’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a recent WellSpan Summit Endowment Grant recipient that’s helping hundreds of families introduce the fun of reading to their kids as early as birth.

Last year, WellSpan supported community efforts by investing more than $1.9 million in community grants across the region.

Research has shown that children who are read to starting at a young age are more likely to have success when learning to read and continue to read throughout their lifetimes. Mae’s family has been reading to and with her since she was brought home from the hospital.

“I like when my mommy reads to me because she’s the best at reading books,” says Mae. “If I keep reading, I’ll get better and better.”

A legacy of hope continues!

Since its founding in 2017, the Diane Miller Gift of Hope Fund has now contributed over $300,000 to the WellSpan York Cancer Patient Help Fund, supporting patients facing financial hardships during their cancer journey.

This year’s Summer Bash at Miller Plant Farm was a powerful celebration of community and compassion, raising more than $63,000 through events like the Farm Fresh 5K and Kids Fun Run. Every dollar goes directly to helping local cancer patients with essential needs — from transportation to medication and more.

Diane Miller’s legacy lives on through every step taken and every dollar raised. Thank you to all who participated, donated and volunteered to make this year’s event a success. Thank you to the Miller family for your continued support 💛

1 summer break, 34 college and high school students and 2,550 total hours contributed – our Summer Volunteer Program has come to a close for 2025!

These hardworking students are trading their blue vests for textbooks and have made their way back to school, but not before they made a lasting impact on the team members and patients of WellSpan.

“It is quite encouraging to see our emerging future leaders give of their time and talent to help others, even more so when their personal attributes fit so well within the exceptional patient care we seek to provide," said Carmen DiCiano, manager of cardiac rehabilitation.

Thank you all for your dedication and service over the past few months! We’re wishing you a school year loaded with learning, fun and growth.

David Dill, a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) patient at WellSpan York Hospital, was becoming depressed after three months in the hospital and struggling to find the motivation to get better.

To brighten his spirits, team members decided to set up a special reunion with him and his puppy, Arrow. His entire care team helped transport David outside for the visit – his first day outdoors since being admitted to the hospital.

“Being able to see Arrow again brought tears to my eyes,” says David. “The visit made me feel better and encouraged me to work hard to get home and be with him. He had grown so much in the time I was in the hospital and I didn’t want to miss more time with him or my family. It meant a lot for the team to do this for me – I can’t thank them enough.”

Today, David is recovering at home, soaking up every moment with Arrow and his family.

“Animals bring out the best in people,” says David. “He’s just one part of my amazing support system that has helped bring out the best in me so I could return home.”

Iron Chef: York County edition — hosted by York County Food Bank, it’s so much more than a culinary competition!

We were proud to attend Iron Chef, where local chefs went head-to-head to create delicious meals using only ingredients typically found in a food bank. 🥫🍠🥕

This event isn’t just about culinary creativity — it's about raising awareness of food insecurity and showing the community the importance of the food bank's mission. The event is a testament to how powerful resourcefulness and compassion can be.

Huge shoutout to all the chefs who brought their A-game and to the York County Food Bank for their tireless work to nourish our community. We're proud to support efforts that bring dignity and nourishment to every table. 💛

⛳️More than 300 athletes, several WellSpan team members and one inspiring week!

The 2025 Special Olympics North America Golf Championship took place this week at the beautiful Penn National Golf Club in Fayetteville, PA. The event brought together hundreds of athletes, partners and coaches from across the United States and Canada for an unforgettable celebration of sport and community.

Meet Richlove! 💛 Richlove joined WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital over the summer as part of WellSpan’s Summer Volunteer Program.

“Volunteering as a patient aide at WellSpan has been a deeply meaningful experience. I’ve had the chance to connect with patients, support their comfort and be a helpful presence during moments that can feel overwhelming. It’s shown me how small acts of care, like a warm greeting or simply listening can truly make a difference. This experience has reminded me why I’m passionate about pursuing a career in healthcare."

Richlove is photographed here, spreading sunshine as a patient aide rounding with the Sunshine Cart! ☀️ Help us cheer Richlove along in her studies this school year in the comment section!
