Chiro x Counselling
Last week I got to see the talented in action during her boundaries workshop ✨
I was honoured to be featured in the workshop to shed light on the somatic consequences of emotional distress and take the group through a restorative movement flow 💪🏽

Some behind the scenes action of a recent *virtual* lunch and learn I did with
Definitely not my normal set up, but I had a lot of fun sharing my favorite mobilizations and stretches with the group!
I'm very thankful for these virtual opportunities to connect with my community through info sessions & appointments ♥ but can't wait to be back in the clinic soon! @ Vancouver, British Columbia

Another day of social distancing and another set of stairs!
Staying active has not been as easy the past few weeks especially if you're like me and rely on your gym/classes! I've been having to get creative lately to find ways to move that motivate me, but also comply with the social distancing guidelines
I've been strategically planning my runs by picking odd hours (earlier or later in the day) and avoiding popular places like the sea walls and beaches. I almost welcome cloudy and cold days to take advantage of and get outside - talk about a new perspective 😂
My home workouts consist of A LOT of body weight exercises - squats, lunges, planks, push ups, you name it! Since I have extra time on my hands, I've been slowing down my movement and focussing on the form more than ever before ➡️ quality > quantity!
I've also signed up for some virtual classes. Some have been free, some by donation, and some for a small fee. This is a great way to try out something new and support your local community! ♥
If you're looking for some ideas or encouragement to get moving, send me a msg 🙋♀️ I'd be more than happy to brainstorm with you!

Good health, adventure, and love. So much to be thankful for every day!
Thanksgiving + World Mental Health day have me feeling like I need to better incorporate gratitude into my daily life, rather than focusing on it just for one long weekend 🦃
Practicing gratitude has the potential to improve mood and therefore affect our mental well-being. By adjusting what we choose to focus on, we can change our perception of a situation for the better👍
My goal is to spend a few minutes before bed 😴 to reflect on the day and list 3 things that I am grateful for

We spend more time talking to ourselves than anyone else so let's be cognizant of our internal dialogue and be kind ♥

A friendly reminder to be kinder to no.1 on ❤️
Mental health has played a big part in my life over the past year, and I’ve had to remind myself a lot how important it is to take it easy on yourself, and to always put self care first.
It seems like more people than ever are struggling with the same problem, and I can’t help but feel guilty that social media plays a big part in it. So, I hope to take more steps over the next year to address this growing issue, and to use my platform to spread awareness on the topic through my work and collaborations.
If you’re struggling and think that you (or someone you know) needs help, please reach out to a friend, family member or professional for support. The first step to solving the problem is talking about it. ❤️

For the first time in a long time this shirt isn't formally relevant to me 😲
In the past, autumn has always meant starting a new semester of school = meeting new people & learning cool 💩... September, more than January, has often felt like the beginning of a new year. Needless to say, I kind of miss it! 🤓
I may not be a student anymore, but I'm always learning & I wouldn't have it any other way! Feeling grateful to be in a profession that allows me to learn from mentors, colleagues & most importantly my patients 🌱

🏃 Had a blast this weekend treating at SEAWHEEZE 2018!
👏 Congrats to all the runners, especially those who completed their first half marathon - you left me feeling inspired 💡
☔ The torrential downpour did not affect their spirits, such great energy to be around!

Tight IT bands that only get temporary relief from foam rolling? ✔️Try this instead: foam roll your quads, hamstrings and TFL while avoiding direct compression over your IT band. 🚫 We often think the area of pain needs to be treated directly, but in this case your IT band is not the culprit, but the victim! it's likely your TFL that needs manual therapy.
IT band = iliotibial band (tendinous)
TFL = tensor fascia lata (muscle)

🌡️ A few hot tips on how to stay cool during this heat wave:
💦 Hydrate!! Drink water frequently throughout the day even if you don't necessarily feel thirsty. Try to avoid sugary drinks as they can cause your body to lose water 😲
Avoid exercising outside during the hottest parts of the day. Go for an early morning jog or wait for the sunset 🌇
If you're not used to exercising in this type of weather, consider lowering the intensity or duration of your workout 🏃
Wear light coloured & light weight clothing so that air is able to easily circulate over your skin to keep you from overheating 👕
Lather on the SPF! Aim for a minimum of SPF 30 & reapply after being in the water or excessive sweating ☀
