I’m sorry, we meant well, but we failed generations by teaching them to deeply understand and articulate every hurt and trigger, while rarely showing them how to sit with discomfort, push through ordinary hardship, or choose behavior that serves long-term well-being simply because it feels hard or bad in the moment.
With heavy hearts, we see now how that left so many unable to act in healthy, steady ways when life demands grit over immediate relief, and sometimes even using those named feelings to justify rage, outbursts, or violence toward others.
We thought naming the pain was enough healing; instead, it sometimes became a reason to avoid the very growth that comes from tolerating what stings, or worse, a permission slip for harmful actions dressed up as “authenticity.”
May we do better, for them, and for the ones still growing.
