A cold finally caught up to me today and staying home wasn’t an option. I am actually the first person to tell people to stay home when they’re sick, but this week I am covering for my VP and a member of my team. So yeah... plan B.
Since my first line of defence — rest, rest, and more rest — wasn’t an option, I had to figure out other ways to support my body. So my morning kundalini practice focused on really gentle spinal work, breathwork and meditation. Essential oils helped my congestion. I ate a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables and drank juice, water, and tea... so much tea! (And I think there is a “face-melter” shot of lemon juice, oil of oregano, fresh ginger, and Cayenne pepper in my near future!)
Most importantly I was really open with the people around me about my energy level, the demands I was under, and adjustments I would need to make to move through the day with relative ease. (I should say that I am fortunate to have an incredibly supportive workplace.) One of my commitments this year is to listen to my body... to be more embodied and to really not be afraid to honour and ask for what I need. I think many of us have a tendency to treat our body as if it’s a vehicle to get our brain from place to place. And when you look around you can see that we’re all paying the price for that, for ignoring the signs, for “powering through” and being afraid to be seen as weak or a vulnerable.
