Another healthy CS baby 🫰

First time Mom went into labor but after over 3 hours, she remained at 8cm with ruptured bag of water.

Nung lumabas, may cord loop si baby and more than 3 kg pala.

Thankfully, both of them are healthy and already discharged.

This healthy baby was born to a mother with insulin requiring 𝗚𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘀 (GDM).

Ang GDM, pag napabayaan, ay maaaring magdulot ng mga komplikasyon tulad ng sobrang daming tubig (polyhydramnios), mas malaki sa normal na size ng sanggol (fetal macrosomnia), mga depekto sa sanggol (congenital anomalies) at ang pinakadelikado sa lahat ay biglang pagkamatay ng sanggol (sudden fetal death). Ang mga komplikasyong ito ay mas madalas pag napabayaang mataas ang blood sugar levels.

Kaya naman, sa mga nanay na diagnosed with GDM, napakahalaga ng:

- Nutritional therapy (proper diet)
- Self monitoring of blood glucose levels (pagchecheck ng blood sugar levels sa bahay)
- Medical therapy (paginject ng insulin) sa mga nanay na hindi kontrolado ang sugar ng diet lamang
- Fetal kick counting (pagbibilang ng galaw ni baby sa bahay)
- Regular prenatal care sa OB Gyn specialist

Kung ang blood sugar levels ay mapapanatiling normal sa tulong ng diet and/or medication, mapapababa ang likelihood ng pagkakaroon ng mga nabanggit na komplikasyon at maaaring makapagsilang ng isang malusog na sanggol gaya ng baby na ito. 🥰🫰

Arrived in Liloan, Cebu - the part of Cebu with the highest number of casualties from the recent typhoon.

We can see Filipino resilience at its finest - how people so quickly bounce back to normal after a tragedy. People lost loved ones, houses, cars and everything. But here they are picking themselves up again because no matter how difficult, life goes on. That's the Filipino spirit. I am speechless... I am in awe...

God bless the Philippines!
