Hello everyone,

Thank you so much to all that have made purchases and/or donations to our fundraiser already!

We have begun selling our Buffalo Dental Pullovers, and will continue to sell until Sept 5. Our fundraiser is in support of the Craniofacial Center at Oishei Children's Hospital. All proceeds will benefit local children with craniofacial differences.

To purchase a pullover, make a donation, or learn more about our cause please visit www.ubomfsinterestgroup.com.

Thank you for your support!

Reposting this video from our Instagram because David Brown recently biked over 100 miles for the annual Ride for Roswell. Way to go Dr. Brown!!!

💜 April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month 💜 Featuring UB’s one and only Dr. David Brown speaking about his experiences last year in the Empire State Ride, fundraising for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Dr. Brown, initially diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma at 30 YO without any risk factors, has since had multiple surgeries — the most recent taking place this winter. He is an OSCC survivor and very special to the students and faculty at UB. We honor his bravery and his commitment to raising awareness.

Some knowledge we can gain from being fortunate enough to learn under and from him includes the following:
🔹Dentists play a very important role in the detection of oral cancer as patients may see their dentist more often than their primary care.
🔹Oral cancer can reach anyone — young patients, non smokers, non alcoholics.
🔹Early diagnosis through a thorough head and neck exam improves prognosis and survival.

Hats off to Dr. Brown — clinician, educator, leader, mentor, fundraiser, cyclist, and survivor 💜

Hello everyone,

I've created a google spreadsheet that should be editable by anyone with the link. This will be our weekly sign-up sheet from now on for topic presentations. We are hoping to meet this Wednesday afternoon due to the Thursday and Friday Buffalo Niagara Meeting. I apologize for the short notice - moving forward this link will always be available so people can schedule in advance. As a reminder, we hope to have biweekly meetings for topic presentations.

We will only meet this week (Wednesday) if someone signs up by Monday night. If not, we will reschedule to the following week.

Thank you and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Update:

Hello everyone,

Today we had our first journal review/topic presentation on maxillofacial infections. Thank you to those that made it today and I've posted Joe Ciciarelli's power-point presentation on our club dropbox for those who didn't have a chance to stop by. Thank you to Joe for an very informative presentation and for setting an excellent standard!

To reiterate what was mentioned at the start of the session:

The goal of the OMFS journal review is to aid students in their professional growth by improving their research, public speaking, and presentation skills. Furthermore, these sessions will familiarize students with various important OMFS topics that will most likely aid them in their future endeavors. Externships/Internships/residency will typically require you to present in front of other residents/faculty. What better what to prepare yourself than by practicing in front of your dental school friends?! It is a judgement free zone and we encourage anyone that would like to improve their presenting skills to sign-up for future sessions.

We are planning to establish a bi-weekly schedule for our journal club. Additionally, we will be creating a spreadsheet with a list of OMFS topics and dates so that students can schedule based on their availability and select their topic of interest for presentation.

We are working on a few networking events where we plan to have UB OMFS residents/faculty and Oral surgeons from the community come and speak to us.

Good luck to those taking the general path exam tomorrow - know those mediators 😉

Thank you,
Chernyak
