Tova Leigh - My Thoughts about stuff:
I'm not a big fan of the whole 'love your body thing'. For me it feels like a lot of pressure. Don't get me wrong, if it's working for you then go for it 💪🏻 But if you'd like a different perspective, here's mine: I don’t 'love' my stomach any more than I 'love' my right elbow, but for a long time I dedicated A LOT of thinking towards my stomach and there lies the difference. While society pays a lot of attention to women’s stomachs, bums, legs and b***s, no one ever bothers with our elbows for example and so we don't care about them either. But imagine if tomorrow's trend was wrinkle free elbows with a dash of glitter, would we all torture ourselves about them too? And imagine a world where no one fixated on women’s bodies at all? Would we still feel preasured to ‘love’ them? And I get why people look for ways to ‘bond’ with the parts they don’t particularly like, or that don’t fit in whatever beauty standards is trendy, or that have changed, or that remind them of something traumatic they’ve been through (like my c section shelf) - I get it because I tried (unsuccessfully) doing that for years. But now I see my body differently: what it LOOKS like is not who I am, it’s not what I’ll be remembered for and it’s the least interesting thing about me (and I can guarantee that what your body looks like is the least interesting thing about you too). What it does for me is another story... My body (which includes my stomach and both of my wrinkly elbows) it's an incredible machine that carried two pregnancies, climbed the Everest Base Camp trek (almost), allows me to walk, talk, think, hug, laugh, dance, smell, see, touch and taste and I am so grateful for 🙏 Like honestly, it's such a gift to even have one. But to spend time on trying to feel LOVE towards individual parts of it seems like a lot of work, whereas shifting the focus has been easy. So I guess what I’m trying to say is this - if the ‘love your body’ thing isn’t working for you, you might want to consider that it's just a body, and while you can appriciate and even respect it, you don't have to ‘love’ it in the first place 🤷‍♀️ TAG A FRIEND ❤️

After a very long hiatus, I am teaching again on Wednesday nights at 6:30 in Pine Beach. Message me for address & info. It is an all levels class given by candlelight and twinkle lights. Options are offered for those who want a stronger practice as well as a more gentle practice. We often end with a super sweet & relaxing mini yoga nidra. And sometimes I may send you home with really delicious vegan treats 🍪

In a Kriya, when the exercise says 60 degrees and you are at 30 degrees, it is a significant difference in the energy.
Some teachers and Yogis just don’t know how to tell one degree from another. Here is a quick easy way to check before you start an exercise. Not absolutely mathematically correct but close enough for an exercise. Your arms most likely aren't perfect no matter how good at math you are 😜

Kundalini was once called serpent yoga and stressed the value of the Shakti energy, the primal power.

The energy of the Kundalini rests at the base of the spine until awoken and slowly uncoils up the spine waking up each of the chakras in turn
Kundalini focuses on the powerful format of using pranayamas (breath work), yoga that uses pranayam and asana. Mudras, mantras, chanting, and meditation. The Kundalini experience is frequently reported to be a feeling of energy movement, joy, heightened awareness, love, electric current running along the spine.
It can also bring emotional release, tears, saddness, relief, fear, and resistance. But the negative side will only remain without the support of a community and teacher. Many students release emotions in class and with the support of the teacher, they can move through it with active or passive help ( passive help is when the teacher is holding space for the whole group and not just one individual. So the student in need of help receives help as a whole and can move through their emotional release feeling held by thr group but doing the work alone internally) ( Active help is when the teacher talks directly to the student in or out of class. Often after class listening to the student and giving advice and additional Kundalini Support through yoga, meditation, and yogi diet)

Yogi Bhajan said

Simply know the truth—that your habits are controlled by the thalamus, hypothalamus. That's what Kundalini is all about. Kundalini is medically well explained. It's a simple science. Hypothalamus and thalamus have to be concurrent. They are not concurrent. And thalamus controls your automatic habits: habit to get up, habit to be alert, habit to be lazy, habit to be this, habit to be bad. And the frontal lobe controls your personality. It must be an alert frontal lobe. You call it third eye, you call it fourth eye; I don't care. Call it anything, but the fact is it's your frontal lobe.
