How is the winter treating your best friend’s paws? If they’re rough and dry, you can try making this easy paw balm!
Does your best friend have rough paws? Here's a recipe that's safe AND soothing for dry and cracked paws. This balm can also be used on rashes and bug bites!
1 tbsp shea butter
1 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp grapeseed oil (or substitute olive oil)
1 tbsp beeswax
14 drops lavender essential oil
6 drops roman chamomile essential oil
2 ounce container, or larger for storage
Create a double boiler system with a glass bowl that is slightly larger than the pot (it will sit on top). Water goes in the pot, beeswax goes in the glass bowl. Turn your heat on at medium. As the water begins to boil the beeswax will begin to melt. When the wax is melted, add the shea butter. Stir until the shea is completely melted, and turn off your heat. Add the coconut oil and stir until it is melted, and finally add the grapeseed oil. This is your base. Add your essential oils and stir until completely blended. Quickly, but carefully, pour the mixture into the container. Place the container, uncovered, into the refrigerator to cool down quickly. This will help prevent the shea butter from becoming gritty. If it is gritty, it is still okay to use, the texture will just be a little different. The essential oils used in this blend are diluted to 1%, and both are generally safe to use with canines. You may want to slip some baby or toddler socks on your pal's feet to keep the balm from smearing up your floor.
