Annual family vacation to the Adirondacks in New York State. We usually cook in the cabin most of the trip, getting groceries from Tops and the local Chestertown Farmers Market but end up going out at least one night. This trip all the leftovers were eaten but the salad. So we went to try DeCesare's Pizza in Schroon Lake, New York. We had wings and pizza, both hitting the spot. My pizza was a white pizza while my son choose cheese. They use Boarhead meats for their pizzas and took precautions to keep us safe. Definitely worth coming back to.

What are things I have most about visiting Western New York is there are so many gluten-free options. We had lunch during our recent weekend there at The Blueberry Treehouse Farm in West Falls, NY. They can make any of their Panini’s gluten free in safety with lettle chips. They also have gluten free blueberry mead, blueberry lemonade, and blueberry iced tea for beverages. In season there is even blueberry picking but we were definitely at the end of the season. They have a Perry’s Ice Cream cart on sight but not celiac safe. Definitely a fun place!

So we were dragged to the The Erie County Fair by the parents while visiting them in Buffalo, NY but I didn’t mind because for the first time since diagnosed with Celiac Disease over ten years ago I had “fair food”. The Silly Yak was the best part of the fair! I bought food to go that I have been enjoying the last few days! Corn dogs. Funnel cakes. Blooming onions. Fried pie. My son and I got a lot and split a lot. They only stay in WNY but if you ever come up here to see Niagara Falls USA definitely track them down! Amazing and so yummy!!!

My absolute favorite place to stop when I’m back home in Western New York is Britesmith brewery because they make the best gluten-free celiac pizza! 🍕 We may have only been in WNY for less than 48 hours, but we came here twice. Took it to see Richard III at Shakespeare in Delaware Park!

20 year Anniversary Celebration at 350 Grace followed by drinks at Skybar Hilton Oceanfront Virginia Beach VA. Everything at 350 Grace is gluten free! It felt so weird not asking about safety and kitchen precautions! I didn’t have to ask anyone to change their gloves.

I was craving the maple sweet potatoes and lamb chops as soon as I saw them on the menu so I choose to double the Lollipop Lamb Chop appetizer for my meal and I was not disappointed!!! It was so good!!! Just the perfect combination of flavors. Hubby got the grilled pork loin and he said the spicy honey sauce was on point. Everything was wonderfully cooked and the service was amazing! Definitely ask for Tess. She has all the recommendations! We are sad it took us this long to get here and have a date night away from the kids but we will definitely be back!

I love sushi 🍣 but many sushi places actually have gluten in their rice. I love Nana Sushi Suffolk VA because they are very considerate of gluten allergies. They have a special glutenn free menu. They have gluten free soy sauce and the staff is ALWAYS amazing!!! We have NEVER had bad service here.

Obviously, we have to stay away from tempura seafood and eels but they have many options for sushi, as well as other items that doesn’t involve seafood for the non-seafood lovers. They are located in North Suffolk and a bonus when you are done with your meal you can walk around TJ Maxx and let your food digest!

Sojourn Fermentory is always a good time.

Smash Burger Lettuce wraps for the WIN!
They also have a gluten free Caprese salad now!

The vibe here is fun and we love going. The rest of the family loves the pizza. On my deathbed, I am going to try one. 😆 They smell divine, but I guess all gluten does.

I have had many discussions with the chefs here and the staff and they are great.

New Orleans Vacation for the win. 🥇

1. Holy Crepes in the French Quarter is a MUST! Fourth time coming here. This time I went for a savory pesto crepe. Yummy! Also the Frozen Basil lemonade is worth it.

2. 3rd Block Depot 3rd Block Depot Kitchen + Bar - not much available gluten free. Had 12 raw oysters. They were HUGE! My gluten eating friends said they had the best Gumbo they had ever had. 🤷🏻‍♀️

3. The National WWII Museum was where I wanted to spend Mother’s Day. What an incredible museum! I didn’t even see half of it. Can’t wait to come back and see more. We ate lunch at the American Sector Restaurant. The Shrimp & Grits was AMAZING!

4. Maïs Arepas was our last stop in New Orleans! EVERYTHING on the menu is gluten free, even the desserts! Will be making this a stop every visit from now on!

May 16 is International Celiac Awareness Day – Let’s Spread the Word!

Celiac Disease is more than a food intolerance—it’s a serious autoimmune disorder. When someone with Celiac eats gluten (a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley), their immune system attacks the lining of their small intestine. This causes damage that can lead to nutrient deficiencies, fatigue, digestive issues, joint pain, skin rashes, and more.

The only treatment? A strict gluten-free diet for life—no cheat days, no exceptions.

Many people go undiagnosed for years, which is why awareness is so important.

Today, I raise awareness for everyone living with Celiac Disease—but especially for my favorite person with Celiac: my son Owen. His strength, adaptability, and positive attitude inspire me every day.

Know the signs. Respect the needs. Read the labels.
