EYE COLOR
Three pigments (brown, blue, and yellow) go into creating eye color, which is genetically determined. Pigmentation of the iris surrounding the pupil takes from six months to a year to complete. During that time, a baby’s eyes can go from light to dark with the addition of pigmentation. While the most common eye color is brown, those who wish to change their eye color should resist any urge to undergo potentially dangerous procedures that involve the implantation of “ocular implants” for cosmetic purposes only. Ocular implants do have medical applications for those born with eye defects such as “aniridia” (having no iris at all) and “coloboma” (a type of birth defect where tissue in or around the eye is missing).
Adults and young adults should have a baseline eye exam if they have not been to an eye doctor in a few years. At that exam, an ophthalmologist will measure vision (performing a refraction) and will ask personal and family medical history questions. To schedule an appointment, please call us today. We accept payments by cash, checks, and Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards. We also speak French!
P.S. Green is the rarest eye color.
