Like the foundation to a home, the firm and stable way we start our day creates the basis for the rest of what we build in our day.

For myself personally, I have been working to create mornings with all of these rituals actively for nearly a year.

The change and benefits have been quite noticeable and pleasurable - I have a greater awareness for myself and the people/environment around me, I am therefore more engaged and experience a state of personal control, I feel stronger sensations of appreciation and patience and the accomplishment of goals comes with much greater ease, as the foundation serves as path clearing towards the goal in mind.

Some of my other rituals I honour are; writing, exercise, dancing to energizing music and envisioning my optimal state and experience.

What is a ritual you go through to start your day?

What feelings and/or outcomes does it create for you?

How does this support you and others? (ie; what value does it uphold).

Do you have your own everyday rituals?

Rituals are small actions that allow us to be present in the current moment and give meaning to our lives (Ter Kuile, 2021). Even small everyday rituals can help make our lives less monotonous, and provide meaning.

Daily rituals are different than just habits in a few key ways. First of all, habits tend to be automatic processes: actions that you do not have to think about, but you do it regardless, such as brushing your teeth in the morning. Rituals can also be part of your daily routine, but they differ from habits in that they require you to be mindful of and intentional in your actions. They are deliberate practices, performed for their intrinsic positive values.

In this post, we collected 5 ideas for positive rituals that you could use in your everyday life, maybe even starting today!

🧘🏻‍♀️ Meditate - It might sound cliche, but meditation might be the best way to be mindful of our bodily sensations. Dedicate some time each morning to focus on your breathing.

🍽️ Mindful eating - When it is time to eat, focus all you attention on your food. Do not treat mealtimes as just ‘fueling up’, but pay attention to what your body is telling you about how eating your meal feels.

📖 Reading - Reading fiction offers a mindful escape, and encourages you to look at the world from different points of views. It also lowers stress levels and helps you sleep better.

📵 Digital detox - A few hours before you go to sleep, try to reduce your screentime. Do something meaningful in this time instead, such as reading, writing or drawing. The more you disconnect from technology, the less overstimulated you will be - which is crucial for a good night’s sleep.

🌳 Exercise in nature - It does not have to be a high intensity exercise, but any time you spend in a natural environment will elevate your mood, clear your mind and increase physical activity levels. If you are already working out, for example in a gym, try doing it in nature for once, you will see the difference immediately.

Which of these positive rituals will you try next? Let us know in the comments!

Where does our power truly reside? In our ability to be fully honest with ourselves.

If we deny, reject, minimize a problem it only disappears temporarily, only to return with greater force when the associated stimulant engages the stored information/problem.

So instead, be honest and acknowledge there is in fact a problem. By radically accepting this, the problem becomes contained, already lessening it's impact.

By becoming engaged, curious and committed to feeling the emotions and learning what needs/values are connected with the obstacle, we begin to identify our strengths/resources and then develop a plan to processing and thus overcoming the challenge.

In doing this, we have raised; our self-awareness, applied our traits and strengths, trusted and strengthened our bonds with ourselves (and much more).

We have played with PERMA (Positive Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning & Accomplishments), the building blocks for our wellbeing, which all foster happiness.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to reflect on how we support our children's emotional well-being.
At Adventures in Wisdom, we've seen that teaching kids to understand and manage their thoughts and feelings is life-changing. Through our story-based coaching, children learn to build confidence, resilience, and a positive mindset.
By equipping them with these life skills early on, we help them navigate challenges and thrive.

Acknowledging the natural emotions that come with mistakes and then shifting the perspective to see it differently, gives rise to both lessons and solutions and is a POWERFUL way to navigate challenging moments and BUILD RESILIENCE.

I personally refer to them as 'MISSED TAKES' to those I coach (and folks in casual conversation). That, just like the movies, life involves take after take till the scene is complete.

That, its natural for us to mess up our lines, miss our mark, go blank, etc., Sometimes BLOOPERS are better than the movie!! (Laughing at our missed takes are quite therapeutic and truly the best medicine after all).

I welcome 'missed takes' and I enjoy helping others do the same!
🙂

Mistakes aren’t setbacks—they’re stepping stones! 💡

Kids don’t have to fear failure when they can understand it instead.

WISDOM Coaching helps kids reframe challenges and bounce back stronger.

HUMAN - KIND! ;)

HUMAN - KIND! ;)

Have you done something kind today?

Research shows that helping others makes you happy (Curry et al., 2018). This positive effect is likely due to the satisfaction of the basic psychological needs: autonomy, competence and connectedness. Autonomy, because you are able to choose the type of act of kindness, as well as when, where, how and to whom. You also feel competent because successfully acting in a kind manner can reinforce the idea that you have the resources and capability to change others‘ lives. And finally connectedness because acts of kindness lead to positive social interactions, therefore proving that you are a valuable member of a community, or society at large (Ko et al., 2019).

It is important to mention that being kind usually does not only benefit you, but also generally eases the misfortune of others. Incidentally, a study by Konrath et al. (2012) found that only volunteers who were motivated to help others, not those who only wanted to help themselves, lived longer than non-volunteers

Furthermore, acts of kindness lead only to a momentary feeling of happiness, therefore it is important that you practice them consistently, and for a long period of time. As with any intervention, the goal is to make it a habit so that the benefits are constant.

Here are some examples of acts of kindness you can perform already today:

🥰 Tell someone you think positively of them - for example, tell them that they are a great friend!

👂 Listen to others without judgment - try to validate your conversation partner’s feelings and opinions without correcting or judging them.

👏 Donate to a charity - donating to causes you believe in are the best ways of supporting them if you do not have the time or energy to volunteer.

🌱 Plant something - to plant is to believe in tomorrow. Contributing to biodiversity when we are losing it rapidly is an act of kindness towards future generations.

🙌 Give yourself a compliment - be kind to yourself as well, you deserve it!

Research shows that using your signature strengths can enhance your wellbeing and happiness, and can decrease depressive symptoms (Seligman et al, 2005). The best results can be observed when someone uses one of their signature strengths in a new way every day for at least a week.

Resilience is for ALL AGES and help us 'big kids' too. Be your own best friend and remind yourself of these truths when times are tough as well!

And remember, kids are great mimickers, if they see an adult leading the way in resilience, they naturally do the same for themselves - a true win-win.
