Valerie Piccitto Nutritionist I’m a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P), Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN) I’ve been where you are. It’s about testing and not guessing!

I was on hormonal birth control for almost a decade before coming off of it. I struggled for years with severe PMS, acne as well as painful and heavy periods. That was back in my early 20’s before I understood how the pill negatively impacts health including gut and liver function and before I made the connection between diet, lifestyle & hormonal health. Since then and most recently, I’ve also st

ruggled with my thyroid experiencing symptoms of hair loss and fatigue. I now know and understand that chronic stress is at the root of that imbalance. Needless to say, over the years I’ve worked with countless health practitioners, taken more supplements, herbs and remedies than I can count, I've had my hormones and food sensitivities tested and I've tried various elimination diets. Today, I’m healing from a thyroid imbalance and years of adrenal dysfunction and I’m so excited to share everything I’ve learned with you. I also continue to learn so I can expand my knowledge base in order to bring you the most up to date information in the health and wellness field. In addition to being a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, I've become a certified Culinary Nutrition Expert which means not only do I have the know how about why the foods we eat are good for us but I also know how to use them in the kitchen. I've also taken advanced clinical focus courses in hormones and endocrinology, digestion and GI health as well as advanced detoxification. Most recently, I earned my certification as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. Functional labs provide observations when working with clients to help identify healing opportunities and point out weaknesses. They identify areas that need improvement and point us to the next logical step on our path to healing. Labs tell us what to work on, how to work on it and how to get deeper and closer to the root cause of your symptoms. And now I want to share everything that I've learned along the way with YOU so that you can experience freedom from your symptoms ! Want to learn more? Head to www.valeriepiccitto.com

These milestone pics are getting IMPOSSIBLE to take 🫠 this kid just wants to move!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My first instinct was to reshoot this. Everett just wouldn’t sit still. And then I decided, no. This is perfect because this is real life and it’s 💯 representative of where we are today with him at 11 months…
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⏰ first off, mom is a week behind getting to this photo🙈 bc life just won’t slow down lately ⠀⠀⠀
😅 Everett keeps me busy! He’s on the go all day. He’s crawling, standing, trying to take the stairs (assisted), busy flushing toilets, looking through the cupboards & more 😵‍💫 He has a lot to explore around the house (which is apparently far more exciting than all of his many, many toys)
🦷 we now have 4 🙊 (teething though 😓 I feel so bad for the kid. What a painful process!)
👋 he’s waving bye & saying hello
👏🏼 he’s clapping
🧸 he likes to hug & kiss his stuffies 🥰
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I can’t believe next month I’ll have a 1 year old 🤯

🧸 This is 10 months 🧸
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧡 we are on the move! Crawling, pulling up to stand, climbing the stairs (assisted)
🧡 we have 2 little teeth 🦷
🧡 giving hugs & kisses - melting everyone’s hearts 🥲
🧡 babbling, blowing bubbles & squealing
🧡 will do anything for our phones and|or the remotes (toy equivalents do not cut it)
🧡 will push our hands away to do things himself (which I kind of love)
🧡 and we think wind is hilarious 🙃

9 months 🧡🌟
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💛 crawling around the house with surprising sp*ed
💛 trying to pull up to stand (sometimes using mommy’s hair 😖)
💛 (finally) napping like a champ 🙌🏼
💛 becoming quite the adventurous little eater & currently loving broccoli florets 🥦, sauerkraut, chia seed pudding & banana pancakes 🥞
💛 imitating us
💛 will fake cough for attention 🙃
💛 very curious about how things work (takes after daddy there)
💛 loves to roughhouse with daddy & thinks mommy is the funniest (holding onto that as long as I possibly can 🥰)
💛 has one little tooth 🦷 🥲
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These milestone pics are getting harder & harder to get 😅 mama is definitely having to get creative with how we shoot them 🙃 But this age is so much fun! Everett is quite the little comedian & will do anything for a laugh 😹
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’re as in love as ever with our sweet boy & feel immense gratitude daily for the family we’ve created 🥹

What a difference a year makes 🥹 🥲 🥰 This summer has been so special for us ✨

And though I’m a bit sad to see it go, I can’t wait to see Everett experience his first fall 🍁 🍃 🍂

Someone’s 8 months old & mom & dad are wondering where has the time gone?! 🙃🫠 I mean, seriously 😳
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This little firecracker 🧨 is
🖤 army crawling around the house (baby proofing is on our list of things to do stat - send tips or resources if you have any)
🖤 yelling for attention (mommy is not allowed to have conversations that don’t include him 🙈) ⠀⠀
🖤 a nature lover 🌳 Prefers to be outdoors any chance we get
🖤 a good little eater who’s favourites include butternut squash, beef, carrots & bananas so far⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖤 amused by our singing to him (must learn more nursery rhymes)
🖤 belly laughing whenever we laugh - which just makes us so happy 🥲 especially since our lol’ing used to scare him to tears 😭 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖤 very into faces, especially noses & mouths. It’s all very sweet until he hooks a nostril or your bottom lip 🪝😬
🖤 becoming quite the little snuggler 🥹
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Everett does not like or appreciate
👟 shoes! They’re maybe on his feet for 3 seconds before he Houdini’s them off. Hence some photos with & some without 🙃 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧦 and socks, because same-same, but different!

Happy 6 months to the sweetest boy in the world ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ve noticed so many changes this month, here are just a few:
🆙 Everett now reaches out for us when he wants “up”
🍼 These days I can’t even scratch an itch under my shirt without him demanding milk from me 🙃 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🥑 He’s been loving food ever since we introduced solids. So much so that he gets very upset if we eat in front of him now without having something for him too
🔔 He’s very into toys that make noise
😹 He laughs when we laugh 🥰
🐶 He’s super interested in the dog lately & sometimes only Derby is able to calm an inconsolable Everett simply by sitting next to him🙊naturally, I now affectionately refer to Derby as Nana because of this🪝(IYKYK) 🙃
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If there was one word I had to choose to describe the changes we’ve seen this month it would be CONNECTION. Everett feels so much more connected to us & his surroundings than he ever did before.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🎂Half a year old in what’s felt like the blink of an eye! And here I thought that would be the last boy I ever loved…😌🙃
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s to halfway to one 1️⃣ 🎉

5 of the most magical months of my life with this sweet & happy boy 🧸
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This month we’re:
🥣 starting to sip on some homemade bone broth before we introduce solids ⠀⠀⠀
🌀 rolling from back to tummy with surprising ease
🦷 teething 😣 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💬 starting to recognize our own name ⠀
👶🏻 making new sounds when babbling & blowing bubbles 🫧
🪞 enchanted by our reflection in the mirror ⠀⠀⠀⠀
😊️ all smiles (…which just cracks our hearts wide open 🥹 )
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On the flip side, it hasn’t been all rainbows & sunshine & I think that’s important to share as well…
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
😾 Everett currently gets very grumpy whenever we need to do an outfit change
😐 he gets bored very easily - sometimes I feel like we’re jumping from activity to activity every 5-10 minutes 😥
⚠️ he also demands my attention ALL the time (just add entertainer to my resume now 🙃)
🔥 he’s also struggled with some skin issues from around 7 weeks or so. First cradle cap & then eczema. It’s been quite the journey & lots of trial & error. Truthfully we’re still figuring it out. We’ve tried it ALL. All the natural & not so natural skincare products. I’ve personally removed all the things from my diet (gluten, dairy, etc) because he’s breastfed. We also investigated all of our household & personal care products like laundry detergents etc. So, it’s been a challenge & I’m just hoping he grows out of it. Mamas, if you’ve been there too, feel free to drop any recommendations you may have below👇🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is by far the hardest job I’ve ever had but it’s also the most rewarding. Given our journey to get here, I take nothing for granted including our hard days.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This time last year I was newly pregnant with Everett & VERY, VERY sick 🤢😵‍💫not even sure the pregnancy would stick 😔 Needless to say, I am so grateful to have him here with me today & I can’t wait to enjoy every ounce of this summer with my sweet rainbow baby 🌈

And just like magic, this little wizard is 4 months old ⚡️🪄
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I keep saying it - but time is just flying by ever since Everett was born (no matter how hard I try to slow it down 🙃).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This month Everett’s:
🦷 starting to teethe (ouch!)
🙀 shrieking for attention or when he’s upset
📚 LOVING to read books with mommy & daddy
🧸 showing a preference for certain toys
😾 getting grumpy when he becomes impatient
☑️ starting to respond to his own name
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our favourite development though - just how often he smiles at us each day. Pure joy 🥹

Someone’s 3 months old 🌟🧸🙊
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Milestones we’ve hit:
🤚🏼 Everett has discovered his hands & they are his favourite toy 🙃 & often in his mouth! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🗣 He can now squeal & shriek in excitement or when he wants our attention 🙈 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
☀️ We now get instantaneous smiles when he sees us upon waking (I think it’s my favourite development 🥰)
👶🏻 He can roll over from tummy to back 🌀& push up to his elbows during tummy time
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Everett has already developed quite the little personality! He’s often very happy but when he’s not, he’ll definitely let you know! He’s also growing like a w**d & is surprisingly strong 💪🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As far as parenthood goes, we have found every single thing we’ve ever read about it to be true - it’s beautiful, it’s hard, it’s amazing, it’s challenging, it’s all consuming, it’s life changing & we’re soaking up every bit of it 🧡
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

2 months of loving our sweet Everett 🧸 & they’ve been the BEST 2 months of our life 🌟 🥲
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧐 now, if we could just figure out how to slow down time! It’s crazy how fast the days seem to be flying by now that he’s here…
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve been super MIA from social media since he’s been born. More than I thought I would be. And I’m ok with it because I’ve been soaking up every minute of my days with him 🥰
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Things Everett loves:
🧡 mornings ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧡 hanging out in his nursery ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧡 being read to ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧡 looking out windows ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧡 playtime on his play-mat ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧡 nursing 🤱🏻
🧡 staring at mommy & daddy
🧡 pacifiers
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Things Everett dislikes:
🚫 diaper changes ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🚫 burping after feeds⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🚫 any pacifiers that aren’t 🙃
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This month Everett has been:
😊️ smiling ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👶🏻 trying to lift his head ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🍼 cooing, gurgling & making lots of sounds ⠀⠀⠀
🧸 trying to grab at things ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⏰ staying awake for longer periods between naps
🩲 he’s gone up a size in his diapers
⬆️ he’s outgrown his newborn clothing & is now fitting into his 0-3 month clothes
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ps. Everett, mommy’s sorry for putting you through these photo shoots 🙈

💫 Everett is 1 month old today 💫 (& mom & dad are not ok 😭).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Quickest month of my life! It’s as though time has sped up somehow 😩
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 month ago he made us parents & even after 4 weeks we still can’t believe he’s ours 🙊
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In just 1 month we’ve already learned:
🧸 he loves to be swaddled (but has to have his arms out) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧸 he loves to keep his hands close to his face & chest ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧸 he loves his pacifiers ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧸 he dislikes diaper changes, being cold & being burped ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Everett’s hobbies currently include:
😴 sleeping ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🍼 eating ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💩 pooping ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🔁 repeat 🙃🙃🙃 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👶🏻 As well as big stretches, sleeping on mommy & daddy’s chest, making all the faces, lifting his head, tracking objects, watching Harry Potter with mommy & Food Network with daddy
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As for us, it feels like just yesterday I woke Chris up to tell him my contractions had started! We feel so grateful Everett chose us to be his parents. We can’t stop kissing that face, taking picture after picture & reminding one another that we made him 🌟
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
* Full transparency for any new parent watching my stories or following our journey here: After 2 years of back to back miscarriages, parenthood has felt like such a privilege. We waited so long to get here & I’m so deeply grateful to have my son. But it’s not without its challenges. Yes, after everything we’ve been through, I do soak up every moment of my day with him. But like all new parents we are still adjusting to life with a newborn, sleep deprivation & I’m personally still recovering from a difficult labour & delivery (though I’m not sure I’m ready to discuss it or share details just yet - I’m still processing all of it). So, please know that while we are loving this new chapter in our lives, it’s not perfect or easy & we’re still definitely adjusting to our new roles 🧡

Pregnancy books part 2 📚:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve done a ton of reading this pregnancy. If you missed part 1 head back to my feed to check it out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was really important to me to not just read about the changes that were happening in my body (and baby’s) during pregnancy but also what to expect after baby arrives. From baby’s first year to breastfeeding & postpartum healing as well.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I would definitely add these books to my list of favs👇🏼:
1. The Motherly Guide to Becoming Mama by Jill Kozial & Liz Tenety ➡️ I wish I’d purchased this book at the start of my pregnancy. I highly recommend it! It’s a super supportive, warm & non-judgmental guide for pregnancy, birth & postpartum. This book walks you through pregnancy month by month, the 4 stages of labour, the “fourth trimester” & so much more!
2. Healing Your Body Naturally After Childbirth by Dr. Jolene Brighten ➡️ a must have! It’s written by a naturopathic doctor & walks you through natural tips & techniques to support healing after childbirth. And it provides answers to common postpartum conditions which is so helpful.
3. The Wonder Weeks by Xaviera Plooij & Frans X. Plooij ➡️ perfect for providing information & advice for every stage of baby’s development. It walks you through the real reason behind baby’s crying, eating & sleeping problems to help ease the transition into parenthood & help baby navigate each milestone/leap.
4. What to Expect the First Year by Heidi Murkoff & Sharon Mazel ➡️ I loved the easy to read month by month format that covers everything from sleep strategies to diapering to bathing & playtime.
5. The Food Doula Cookbook by Lindsay Taylor ➡️ this was a lifesaver when it came to preparing healthy & nourishing meals & snacks for the first few weeks postpartum.
6. So, That’s What They’re For! By Janet Tamaro ➡️ for anyone considering breastfeeding their babe, I’d highly recommend this book. It was funny, light-hearted, encouraging & super informative.

Third trimester 💫👇🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Officially 36 weeks & this is all still so surreal to me! That we even made it this far…I’m immensely grateful 🥲 Still, I’ll be breathing much easier once this little babe is physically in my arms 👶🏻
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This pregnancy has been challenging for me (physically - ALL the symptoms 🙈 & emotionally because as I’ve shared before, pregnancy after loss is hard AF).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I really wish I was one of those people who could say I felt amazing during pregnancy. I kept holding out hope each trimester. But nope👎🏼 sadly, not my experience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🤢 I’ve had nausea & vomiting on & off this entire pregnancy. Definitely not as bad/consistent as it was in the first trimester but still….UGH! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❤️‍🔥The heartburn! Omg! BRUTAL. And yes, I’ve tried everything: enzymes, HCL, sleeping propped up, ACV, avoiding certain foods, cal/mag, tums, gaviscon
🚽Middle of the night p*e breaks
🦵waking up to hip/thigh pain
😥night sweats ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🥦 back to struggling with veggies 🙈
👣swollen feet & hands & puffy face
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Even still, feeling him move inside me is actual magic 💫 It keeps me grounded, helps me stay connected to him & makes dealing with all of that☝🏼worth it 🧡
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In terms of our to do list 📝:
🧸The nursery is 85% complete (with so many shipping delays, it’s really held us up). Which is ok, because we’ll have him in our room for the first little bit. But I’d still like it done before he arrives. It’s the type A in me 🙃 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🍽We’ve been busy prepping meals & snacks to help make our day to day easier once baby’s here. At least for the first few weeks. I have everything stored & labeled in the freezer. Things like grass-fed beef lasagna, raspberry breakfast bars, energy bites, soups, muffins, chili, etc.
🏥Hospital bag is packed & ready to go!
🤰🏻As for me, I’m officially on maternity leave & just focusing on myself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, should this little babe make an early appearance, we’re ready for him 😌
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Little 🤰🏻
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
32 weeks & baby is the size of a cantaloupe🍈🙊 It’s still so surreal for us that we’ve come this far. We’re beyond grateful & can’t wait to meet our boy in just 8 weeks (give or take 🙃)!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s hard to believe I’ve been loving on this bump for 8 months now! 💫
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pregnancy has been challenging in many ways but I can say my favourite parts hands down have been:
👶🏻 feeling baby boy move (best feeling ever!) ⠀⠀
👶🏻 the first time Chris was able to feel him move 😭
👶🏻 the first time I felt baby boy have hiccups 🥲🥲🥲
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ve accomplished a lot so far on our baby to do list: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ we’ve settled on a name (though we’re keeping that for ourselves until he’s born 🙊) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ I’m almost done packing my bag for the birthing centre ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ the nursery is nearly complete (delivery delays & all🤷🏻‍♀️) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ I’ve washed all his tiny little clothes & organized his dresser (is this what they call nesting?) ⠀⠀⠀⠀
✅ car seat is safely & correctly in place
✅ birthing classes well underway
✅ I also plan on batching out a bunch of freezer meals & snacks in December for the first few weeks postpartum to help make our day to day easier. Using the & .food.doula for inspiration 🌟
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the meantime, I’m wrapping up work, resting where I can (especially now that I’m not sleeping well), staying as active as I can & soaking up this time just the two of us before we become a family of 3 🧡
