Triggers & Emotional Regulation with year 8 girls 💖
In Week 2 of the PEACE Programme, we focused on processing big emotions safely. These girls experience strong feelings daily — from friendships to family dynamics — and sometimes struggle to navigate conflict, self-worth, and their own triggers.
This session was about giving them practical tools they can use in the real world:
🎀 Emotional regulation strategies for moments of overwhelm
🎀 Visual tools like the emotion thermometer
🎀 Language techniques to help them name what they feel and why
One workbook brought such a smile to my face — one of the girls listed my name as something that makes her feel green (excited, optimistic) 🥹. She also reflected on what pushes her red (angry, fuming) — teachers, siblings, herself sometimes, and when people deliberately get on her nerves. Moments like these are a reminder of the trust and openness the girls bring to these sessions.
It’s such a joy to watch their growth unfold… learning to pause, reflect, and respond rather than react is a life skill that will stay with them far beyond the classroom. 💕
