If you’re an athlete, you love pushing your body to the limit.
But intense training can sometimes cause serious systemic imbalances, impacting both your performance and quality of life.
This is precisely what happened to me.
My name is Christopher Kelly, and when I first moved to Silicon Valley in 2001 to work as a software engineer, I fell in love with the active West coast lifestyle. Before long, I was competing and winning, in the world of mountain bike racing.
Life on the bike was fantastic.
But off the bike, I was plagued by a growing list of chronic health issues.
Fatigue.
Insomnia.
Mild depression.
Zero s*x drive.
And digestive issues.
My doctor said that this is “just what happens” to athletes.
But I wouldn’t accept that.
The doctor referred me to a gastroenterologist, who’s best recommendation was potentially harmful steroid drugs and invasive surgery.
Luckily around this time, I met my future wife — a brilliant young food scientist named Julia.
She recommended that I try an elimination diet.
Pretty soon, I was feeling better than I had in years!
This got me wondering what else was possible.
So I started exploring the world of advanced biomedical testing.
Utilising tests that many doctors don’t even know about, I learned I had several nutritional deficiencies and chronic infections.
By modifying my lifestyle and taking supplements, I eliminated these imbalances too!
At this point, I was inspired, and I wondered how many other athletes might be suffering from similar issues.
So I teamed up with my wife Julia; medical doctor, friend and fellow mountain biker Jamie Kendall-Weed; medical doctor and research scientist Tommy Wood; to launch Nourish Balance Thrive.
Since then, we've added coach Clay Higgins, research scientist and coach Megan Roberts, and performance psychologist Simon Marshall.
Together, we’ve developed a revolutionary coaching program that has transformed the lives and performance of over 1,000 athletes.
