American Acne & Rosacea Society Visit our website to get the latest acne and rosacea news and view upcoming events The AARS is devoted to changing this misunderstanding.

The American Acne and Rosacea Society is an alliance of dermatology medical professionals dedicated to elevating the understanding and treatment of acne and rosacea. Managing the care of acne and rosacea patients forms one of the greatest parts of the dermatology practice. Despite this, the academic, research and policy making communities devote little attention to these diseases. Many lay people,

non-dermatologists, and even some dermatology professionals consider these disorders to be little more than minor inconveniences.

April is Rosacea Awareness Month, and we’re spotlighting the deeper impacts of this chronic skin condition.

It’s not just facial redness.
📉 Rosacea is linked to GI disorders, vascular disease, and stigma.
🚫 Many patients lack access to basic treatments—only 14% of states freely cover at least one redness therapy.
💡 Internalized stigma and decreased quality of life are real, but not always addressed in care.

It’s time to look beyond the skin and advocate for greater awareness, better coverage, and compassionate care.

Yesterday was World Teen Mental Wellness Day. Adolescents with acne and low acne-related quality of life (QOL), have lower levels of self-esteem, resilience, and increased psychological distress. They also report low engagement in physical activity, addictive use of social media, and prolonged screen time. Higher social support may be key to improving acne-related QOL in adolescents, data suggest. (Clin Exp Dermatol. 2024 Oct 19:llae453)
