Swimming Specific Yoga Swimming Specific Yoga programs are designed to develop different elements that any swimmer needs to be successful.

Swimming Specific Yoga provides swimmers of all levels with online classes and information to develop several physical and mental characteristics that lead to success in and out of the water. After incorporating yoga with my athletes during my 20 year swim coaching career I saw incredible results in both their performance and their wellness. That impact was one of the reasons I decided to combine

two of my greatest passions - swimming and yoga. In the last four years after becoming a 500 hour certified yoga teacher and therapist I have worked with 100s of swimmers from 7 years old to Olympic athletes incorporating Swimming Specific Yoga. This website has been created to share Swimming Specific Yoga practices which will enhance your performance in the water and wellness outside of it. Starting in September of 2017 two different Swimming Specific Yoga practices will be published each week. You will be able to access these practices by purchasing of a drop-in pass or with a monthly subscription. With a monthly subscription you will also gain access to our pose database, pose tutorials and different Swimming Specific Yoga courses. How can swimmers benefit from working on their body awareness on dryland?

By becoming more in tune with your body it enables you to change technique more efficiently and understand how you respond to different training stimulus, which you can transfer to the water.

Balancing poses create a heightened sense of awareness by decreasing your base of support. In these poses subtle and sometimes not so subtle adjustments need to be made to find stability.

To make these adjustments successfully you have to understand how your body is responding as you hold the pose.

As a swimmer there is a good chance that you will perform around 2-3,000 strokes the next time you jump into the water. To be able to handle that load effectively you need to develop balance between shoulder stability and mobility.

A swimming-specific yoga practice can help create this balance through body awareness and mindful movement.

As any swimmer 🏊 knows you expect a lot from your legs, especially your quads. Because your quads are one of the main muscles used to create propulsion with your legs they get tight, at times very tight 🥺.

A Swimming-Specific Yoga practice is a great way to stretch out your quads and recovery for another great kick set.

These three poses are a few of my favourites:

🧘 Dancer
🧘 Half Bow
🧘 Low Lunge with a Quad Stretch

These poses have more benefits than just stretching your quads.

Dancer helps develop body awareness, balance, focus and hip stability.

Half Bow can improve your shoulder and spinal mobility as well as stretching your abdomen.

Low Lunge with a Quad Stretch is a great way to stretch out your hip flexors.
