Treat Eyebags and Dark rings with Facial Gua sha!
The Circulatory System...
We can use the system of Chinese medicine channels or rivers (which are essentially blood vessel networks) to understand what is feeding each area of the face with the oxygen, minerals, nutrients and the fresh blood that it needs.
The Stomach River...
The stomach river begins in between your eyes, meandering down to the midpoint below your eye. It goes all the way down the front of your body down to your toes, passing directly through the stomach and pancreas. So we can guess what might be behind an accumulation of fluids under the eye.
Yes, your stomach and your digestion.
Kidney & Heart Rivers...
The kidney and the heart rivers are two parts of the same river that comes up the body and through the back of the eyes. So it's no suprise that dark circles can be related to the functioning of the adrenal/kidney system - the darker the are, the more disturbed this system is.
Muscle Chains...
The orbicularis oculi, is part of two chains of muscles.
- The upper part is linked to the bladder muscle chain which goes over your head and down your back.
- The lower part is the stomach muscle chain, including the large muscles which go down the front of your body.
If there are disorders in any of these muscles, they could obstruct the flow of blood, to and from the eye area.
Practical Tips...
- Local & Body Treatment: Begin around eyes and cheek area, but don’t forget the rest of the body.
- Handle with Care: Be extremely gentle in the sensitive under-eye area and never touch or go too close to the eyeball.
- Outward Strokes: Perform strokes outward away from the mid-line when on the face.
- Warmth over Cold: Opt for warmth, such as a warm eye pack, to increase local tissue temperature and improve blood circulation.
