💛 From HT4M: Seasonal Depression Awareness Month is a reminder that the winter season can be difficult in ways that aren’t always visible. Shorter days, colder weather, and added stress can take a real toll on mental health - especially for individuals and families already navigating barriers to consistent, affordable care. These challenges often intersect with housing instability, caregiving responsibilities, food insecurity, and limited access to behavioral health services across many of our communities.

At HealthTech 4 Medicaid, we believe acknowledging these experiences matters. Our work is grounded in the idea that everyone deserves pathways to care that are compassionate, stigma-free, and accessible - whether through community support, digital tools, or improved coverage and coordination across the Medicaid ecosystem.

🏠 Home is where older adults want to age — but H.R.1 puts that at risk.
HCBS programs rely on Medicaid funding and state flexibility. H.R.1’s restrictions could make it harder for states to sustain or expand these essential services.

📊 The reality:
Nearly 70% of older adults prefer care at home — yet HCBS programs already face long waitlists and staffing shortages.

⚠️ What H.R.1 would do:
• Limit states’ ability to raise wages
• Restrict training + stabilization programs
• Shrink the direct care workforce
• Reduce access to home-based services

⛔ When HCBS capacity drops:
Care shifts back to institutions — which are more expensive, less preferred, and disrupt continuity of care.

💡 Why it matters:
State flexibility is key to building strong, community-based care systems. H.R.1 threatens that progress.
