❤️ February is American Heart Month

This American Heart Month, we’re highlighting the role Medicaid plays in preventing and managing heart disease—the leading cause of death in the United States.

Heart disease and stroke often disproportionately affect low-income communities, communities of color, and older adults, driven by structural barriers like limited access to preventive care, food insecurity, housing instability, and gaps in coverage. Medicaid is a lifeline, supporting access to primary care, medications, chronic disease management, and preventive services that help people stay healthy and avoid preventable hospitalizations.

At HealthTech 4 Medicaid (HT4M), we believe advancing cardiovascular health requires more than treatment alone. It means investing in early prevention, community-based care, data-driven coordination, and equitable innovation that meets people where they are.

This month, we recognize the providers, caregivers, and community partners working every day to reduce cardiovascular risk—and we remain committed to strengthening Medicaid so heart-healthy care is accessible, continuous, and equitable for all.

🖤 National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Today, we recognize National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and reaffirm the urgent need to address the inequities Black communities continue to face in HIV prevention, treatment, and care.

Black Americans represent a disproportionate share of new HIV diagnoses, driven by long-standing structural barriers—unequitable access to care, stigma, housing instability, and gaps in insurance coverage. Medicaid plays a critical role in expanding access to HIV testing, prevention services like PrEP, and life-saving treatment for millions of people nationwide.

At HealthTech 4 Medicaid (HT4M), we believe advancing health equity requires strengthening Medicaid and the systems around it—so care is accessible, culturally responsive, and centered on the needs of the communities most impacted.

Today, and every day, we honor the advocates, providers, and community leaders working to end HIV—and we remain committed to policies and innovations that support dignity, access, and better health outcomes for all.

02/02/2026

This Black History Month, HT4M highlights the vital role Medicaid plays in advancing Black health and promoting health equity for underserved Black communities. Medicaid expansion has been a key contributor to reducing racial disparities in health coverage, as Black Americans are more likely to rely on Medicaid than their White counterparts, who are more often covered through private insurance. According to KFF, expansion of Medicaid benefits through the Affordable Care Act—from pregnancy and postpartum care to mental health and substance use disorder services— is linked to improve health outcomes and reduce long-standing disparities impacting Black communities and other historically marginalized groups.

Now more than ever, it is critical to understand the benefits of Medicaid and how recent and proposed cuts could negatively impact Black communities across the United States. These cuts will disproportionately harm Black women and children, further exacerbating the health disparities Black Americans have experienced for generations and risking continued inequities for future generations. This moment calls for the health community to come together to drive innovative solutions, apply equitable and inclusive design methods, and advocate for policies that protect and strengthen Medicaid as a source of care, not just for Black families and communities, but for all.

HT4M remains committed to addressing the systemic inequities that shape access to care and health outcomes and advancing Medicaid as an important tool for achieving health equity. Through advocacy, collaboration, and inclusive, community-centered solutions, HT4M will continue working to strengthen Medicaid, confront structural barriers, and help build more equitable futures and better health care for all.

🎉 HT4M Member Spotlight: Pair Team

We’re excited to share that Toward an AI-First Medi-Cal: A Health Data Utility, authored by Nate Favini, MD, and Neil Batlivala, of HT4M Member company Pair Team, has been selected by the California Health Care Foundation as one of the bold ideas shaping the future of Medi-Cal.

Their proposal reimagines Medi-Cal as an AI-first system, using a shared health data utility to proactively identify social and medical risks, close care gaps earlier, and enable timely, preventive interventions before people reach crisis.

This vision aligns with HT4M’s mission to advance data-driven, community-centered solutions that strengthen cross-sector care coordination and ensure technology is used to promote equity and real-world impact for Medi-Cal members. We are encouraged to see innovative ideas like this gaining momentum and helping move the system toward a more resilient, connected, and person-centered future.

Cervical Health Awareness Month:Prevention Starts with Access

January is National Cervical Health Awareness Month, an observation to raise awareness of cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers. Upwards of 93% of cervical cancer cases can be preventable through regular screenings and HPV vaccinations if people could have access to this care early and consistently.

This is where Medicaid can serve life-saving care. It provides coverage for:

☑️ Pap tests and HPV screenings
☑️ HPV vaccination
☑️ Diagnostic follow-up and treatment
☑️ Preventive care with minimal or no cost-sharing

For millions of women and people with cervixes, Medicaid is the primary pathway to early detection and better outcomes. Only 44% of cervical cancers are detected at a local stage, but the 5-year survival rate is significantly improved with early detection.

🌟 5-year survival rates:

•Local stage diagnosis - 92 percent survival

• Regional stage diagnosis - 56 percent survival

• Distant stage diagnosis - 17 percent survival.

At HealthTech 4 Medicaid, we value the critical role Medicaid coverage plays in cervical health. As technology advances, data and innovation can help close gaps by enabling providers to reach patients, improving screening adherence, and reducing disparities across communities.

Cervical health awareness is about more than education. It’s about access, equity, and using technology to ensure prevention reaches everyone.
